This was a rather unusual stay for us. A youth hostel in a castle. How cool is that? So not only is the stay dirt cheap it also has extremely panoramic views of the Rhine looking out over battlements and turrets. The only problem was it was overrun by children. I am not sure if this was a one off... More

I will start by saying, this would be a very difficult location to get to if you have a heavy case and not a backpack. it is a big climb up a steep mountain, but once you are there it is well worth the climb. the views are amazing and the hostel is in a castle, cant beat that. the... More

We stayed here with another family during Easter week. The place was crawling with kids who were playing games in the courtyard in the afternoon, evening (until 10 p.m.) and the following morning. It was awesome! Very clean facilities with powerful showers. Decent breakfast as well, and reasonable prices on beer/wine which could be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the... More

Our group arrived a bit late but they held dinner for us. The buffet had great German food. The rooms were clean and comfortable for a hostels we had a room with a private bath and it was nice with great hot water and pressure. The dining hall become a pub after dinner open until 10 and had good prices.

We have stayed here twice, so good we came back a year latter with our younger family members so they can enjoy the magic of the place. Hosts: Friendly and English speaking Room: The usual hostel room found in Germany, only this one overlooked a medieval courtyard. Clean, bright and basic, but that's all you expect. Lots of little rooms... More

This is a hostel, not a 3 star hotel. But a very clean one. The great thing is that the hostel is in the old castle that overlooks Bacharach and the Rhine valley... and wow what a view. Gorgeous. The road to the Burg Stahleck is quite steep, so a no-no for those with heart problems. But again... the view?... More

Our 3 month Europe trip would seem incomplete without this hostel/hotel. The rates were very reasonable and included free meals which were very tasty. In the dining room you could try local wines and the views from the courtyard can't be beat. The walk up to the castle was a bit tiring but well worth it in the end. There... More

Are you in good shape? The walk from the KD Line ferry dock all those stairs to the castle just about did me in. One compensation: some great look-out points over the Rhein River. The reception is very busy: one person answering the phone, talking to guests and registering new guests. Reservation is a must - travellers without reservation were... More

O.k., perhaps I expected too much. Great price, priceless views, great for kids. If you are looking for a luxury stay, forget it, this is not the place. If you are interested in staying in a real castle on the cheap this is your place, plenty to do for the kids, plenty to explore. Very uncomfortable rooms! Climb to the... More

What an amazing place! This is the first time ever visiting a Youth Hostel - what a plus staying in a hotel. I took 53 Y8 students, and 6 staff including myself. What a wonderful view to wake up to - looking over the River Rhine. We had amazing weather, and the kids had a great time. The staff were... More
