Luxury hotel in a seaside setting among the dunes on charming Île d'Oléron; stunningly beautiful modern architecture; very helpful and accommodating staff; excellent food and selection of wines; and gorgeous sea views from comfortable, sleek modern rooms.

Beautifully situated, nestling in the dunes, 20 yards from endless beaches with massive tides and interesting history. Made for walkers who like drifting along the shoreline, taking in the distant horizon and examining contemporary 'peche a pied' and 'ecluses de peche', amongst many other natural and historical phenomena (we even saw a wild boar swimmimg in the sea!). Modern (1960s)... More

Dear Mister and Madam LIDDANE, Thank you for your touching recommendation and your coming in our establishment, it was a great pleasure to welcome you. We loved your description of the environment which reflects perfectly the typical things that can be seen on this wonderful Island. For the wild boar, it is a very rare phenomenon and thank you to... Must be the best hotel on the Island, great service, great owners (the lady of the house runs the hotel/her husband runs the restaurant), amazing views, enough parking in front of the hotel and all rooms have been remodeled . Nice indoor pool, privacy in the garden and only a 1 minute walk from the beach . The restaurant is... More

I have little experience of a 4 star hotel- but I believe this ticked all the boxes. Comfortable room with tea and coffee, fridge, TV, hair drier, bath robes and slippers etc... The bed was super comfortable and the shower was great (called an Italian shower, so I'm told) Indoor pool, gym and jacuzzi (not working) all available too. Restaurant... More

First the good things, the hotel is very clean the bed was comfortable, our room had a lovely sea view. The food was good and the restaurant staff were charming and efficient. However the bathroom was very tired with a cracked sink and a shower head that kept falling off of its holder. The hotel decor Is drab and utilitarian.... More

We loved this hotel - and will certainly come back. We arrived after 9.30pm due to a late flight - we were given a warm welcome - we were given a tour of the hotel by a charming receptionist who arranged for us to have platters of cheese & charcuterie, salad and bread with a bottle of wine in our... Beautiful location, extremely friendly family run hotel, very helpful! We had a wonderful long weekend on Ile d'Oleron staying at Hotel Le Grand Large. The reception desk was attentive to our every need from WIFI connection to bike rentals to excellent restaurant recommendations. The beachfront location with easy beach access is unbeatable and the views magnificent. A lovely place.

We had just spent three weeks on a road trip around Europe staying at hotels under 120 euros a night and our previous stay was at a luxury hotel in San Sabastian with everything (including beach, night life etc, all for 120 euros) and we wanted our penultimate night to be special, so we paid 230 euros to stay at... We were only here for an overnight stop, which was a pity as it is not enough. Two or three nights would be better to enjoy this marvelous place. The hotel is tucked behind the dunes and the beach so its totally quiet. There is a private access to the beach. If you are not a beach goer then you... More

This is a wonderfully simple and beautiful hotel. Modern with its architecture, decoration, paintings, sculptures and music but quiet and simple in the way it is run. It sits right on the beach facing west, where the next stop is Long Island in the USA. This hotel reminds me of the Long Island scenery and summer ambience The rooms are... More
