It was a last minute booking as a stopover for our vacation on the west coast of France. I chose it purely to surprise my wife and a short adventure in an old chateau for our 6 year old son. The result was a surprise for all. As other reviewers have commented, it is a wonderfully romantic place. The gardens,... More

We spent a delightful one night stay at this beautiful Chateau. The staff were all very professional and helpful, particularly the young concierge who couldn't have been more helpful. Our suite was spacious and tastefully decorated. A very good meal was had in their restaurant.

I cannot express into words the beauty and romance of this very fine chateau!! Tucked away from everything in the countryside, all you hear are the chirping of the birds, (cuckoos) and wild pig sounds in the forest. All of the rooms are different and decorated in beautiful fabrics . Bed linens and towels are the best, as is the... More

First nights stop of a pretty intensive three day press trip to the Dordogne, lots of history attached to the place because of its association with writer Colette. Huge room up in the eaves, very well appointed an comfortable but I slept with the lights on as a bit spooky on my own.stunning location well worth the trip, though a... More

The association with Colette, who lived here, makes this an interesting place to stay for anyone into the literature of France. The hotel is splendid and it's rooms grand. The integral Michelin-starred restaurant, with dinner often served on the terrace, is an added bonus. The cuisine is good, and what you might expect, but not particularly inspiring. Good selection at... More

The chateau is magical, beautiful, well maintained and set in wonderful grounds. Arrived after a long drive to a very friendly welcome and a wonderful room--warm (in November), charming and relaxing; great bed; everything we could need in a room. Afternoon cuppa and then a walk in the garden. We booked dinner. Food is fine dining with limited choice but... More

This is a charming, comfortable place to stay. It's an old chateau that has been completely restored. Each room is different, and some are a bit eccentric. Several of them, including mine, have steps up to the bathroom. The rooms are very nicely decorated, with lovely views. You do need a car, though, if you're not with a tour group.... More

Not only is this place beautiful, the grounds immaculate, the pool and pool-house wonderful and the food to die for, but the family behind it all is amazing. We had broken down in our vehicle and they couldn't have done more to be helpful - to sort out a replacement and to make us feel so welcome. Our children LOVED... More

Wow. I could write an entire TA review using just that one word for this place, but I think you might like a few more details.... Basically, every positive thing that has been said in previous reviews about Castel-Novel is true. The staff is so friendly and accommodating, the rooms are drop-dead gorgeous (both in layout and appointment), and the... More

My husband and I wanted to visit the Perigord/Dordogne areas of France and sought a "central" location for convenience. We were not expecting anything really exceptional in Varetz, France (which, while charming, has little to recommend it, and the closest larger town -- Brise -- has little more to offer), but we were delighted to discover we'd found a real...
