The chateau is magical, beautiful, well maintained and set in wonderful grounds. Arrived after a long drive to a very friendly welcome and a wonderful room--warm (in November), charming and relaxing; great bed; everything we could need in a room. Afternoon cuppa and then a walk in the garden. We booked dinner. Food is fine dining with limited choice but... More

This is a charming, comfortable place to stay. It's an old chateau that has been completely restored. Each room is different, and some are a bit eccentric. Several of them, including mine, have steps up to the bathroom. The rooms are very nicely decorated, with lovely views. You do need a car, though, if you're not with a tour group.... More

Not only is this place beautiful, the grounds immaculate, the pool and pool-house wonderful and the food to die for, but the family behind it all is amazing. We had broken down in our vehicle and they couldn't have done more to be helpful - to sort out a replacement and to make us feel so welcome. Our children LOVED... More

Wow. I could write an entire TA review using just that one word for this place, but I think you might like a few more details.... Basically, every positive thing that has been said in previous reviews about Castel-Novel is true. The staff is so friendly and accommodating, the rooms are drop-dead gorgeous (both in layout and appointment), and the... More

My husband and I wanted to visit the Perigord/Dordogne areas of France and sought a "central" location for convenience. We were not expecting anything really exceptional in Varetz, France (which, while charming, has little to recommend it, and the closest larger town -- Brise -- has little more to offer), but we were delighted to discover we'd found a real... We stayed 3 nights in this wonderful chateau tucked away among tall trees just outside the small town of Varetz. The building is an impressive structure surrounded by a large park with swimmingpool and tenniscourt. The hotel restaurant is a one-star Michelin. It's fabulous and demands a review of its own, but the breakfast is rather expensive. Our room was... More

We stayed for six nights at this chateau hotel and restaurant and experienced the highest quality both in terms of accommodation and dining. However even inconsistences in service stick out when you stay at this level, so I will mention these in passing. From the moment of our arrival, we were greeted warmly by Charlotte who was the receptionist on... More

What an amazing place to stay at. When we arrived, the desk staff was exceptionally helpful and our rooms were beautiful, elegant and most comfortable. We had a wonderful view of the countryside and enjoyed every minute of our stay. We ate in the hotel dining room which was pricey, but its definitely worth the trip for a different dining... More

Very romantic castle where famous author Colette found inspiration for her novels. I loved this place, beautiful room in the tower, excellent service (they even give you a big bottle of water when you leavehe hotel), delicious breakfast. As for dinner, I prefered Michelin starred restaurants close by. This part of France is on of my favorite : lots of... More

We stayed at the Chateau de Castel-Novel for two nights in October 2012, as part of the Tauck "The Art of Living" tour. We were traveling with family and friends and our group of eight all had lovely and spacious rooms, a lot more than we expected from a castle hotel. The service at the restaurnats for two breakfasts and... More
