I was very happy to stay at El Maltese. The owner, who is indeed from Malta, lives on the premises most of the year. His name is M. Fluti, he's a businessman with experience in the hospitality industry, and determined to make El Maltese a destination hotel. I stayed there for two nights and really enjoyed my stay. The reason... Apart from the very kind people at the reception, I can't find any positive argument to go there. Not even the sea side. Rooms are old and dirty, my wife and I used our sleeping bags because we didn't trust the sheets. The bathroom was even worse. For that price, you can find a lot better, what we did the... More

The room was filthy dirty and the staff refused to refund my money, even tho I had not used the room. I just left my bags when I went to find another hotel. And at $35 it is a rip off! There are much, much nicer hotels for the same price.

I did not have the best experience at this hotel. The location is away from the crowds and near the lake which is nice, but as a solo traveler, I would suggest staying in town. When I arrived, the first room I was shown did not have a working A/C and was on the ground floor so no breezes reached... More

This is a very scenic motel across the street from lake Nicaragua. If you are looking for a place to lay your head at a good price, clean room, and good hospitality this is the place. However, except for a nice breakfast there are no amenities, not even soap. Also, this may be a better option if you are Spanish... More

The good thing about the hotel is that the front desk lady; Maria Louisa is knowledgeable and will help out in most every situation. The staff is nice and appear to care. The negative aspects we learned was that the new owner has downsized the staff to which just a few people have to take care of everything. As a... More

Doña Maria, the manager, will do almost anything for her guests. Our agent (not the hotel) made a mistake and didn't book enough rooms for our group of 27. We arrived late at night but María immediately organized rooms in another hotel, made sure somebody would be there at the reception and even drove the guests there! The other staff... More

I stayed at El Maltese after reading excellent reviews here. It was good and bad in different aspects. The people taking care of the hotel were very nice but were not equipped in terms of language or resources. The rooms were very clean and as described. The hotel was in a very nice spot away from the craziness of the... More

I ended up at Hotel Maltese by accident with students in tow when kayak.com booked us into a hotel in Granada, Spain. We and loved it! Quiet location across from Lago Nicaragua within a 10-minute walk to the center of the colonial city. Quiet, safe, and affordable for students. Maria Luisa, the manager, and Bobby Jung, the owner, were so... More
