This is our second day to journey in Central India, as part of the Times of India - Royal Food Trail. From Nawab of Bhopal the food trail had moved to Holkars of Central India, where the food did not have Muslim influence but was influenced by Maratha culture. The journey from Bhopal to Maheshwar was treacherously long and tiring.... More

This is a Fort with so much of History, Story of rani ahilyabai holkar. This fort is situated on the banks of Narmada River, you can see the beauty of the place till your eyes can see. Lots of Temples in it and there is so much art around, you'll experience the true artists has'd built it.

We absolutely loved our stay at Ahilya fort - the only problem is, we didn't stay long enough! The setting is beautiful on the Narmada river. The history of the fort is incredible, and every nook and cranny is filled with remanants of the past. The gardens are wonderful, as was the food (much of which came from the gardens).... More

Ahilya fort is a place where you should go if you are not a 5 star person, the hotel is beyond the definition of luxury. It is a different experience. Absolute peace and tranquility. Enjoy the food from the farms owned by the property. They have the true definition of the word "Service". I would advice you to take the... More

Maheshwar is a town about 90 kms from Indore. Airport is in Indore, and we traveled by taxi to Maheshwar. Had no expectations at all from the place. The moment we checked in the hotel, which actually is a fort, built centuries ago by great Ahilya Bai Holkar, I was sucked into the charm of the place. Kept entirely in... More

It isn't an exaggeration when it is said that living at Ahilya अहिल्या Fort Maheshwar (just 90 km from Indore, the nearest airport) is akin to a stay at Prince Richard Holkar's home. Our 2 days weekend stay was a fabulous authentic experience of royal Maratha मराठा hospitality! What impressed us the most? Several highlights indeed. First & the foremost,... More

We visited Ahilya Fort in February, which is perfect weather-wise, and were very well looked after. The management team are courteous and friendly, and attend to all one's requirements with professionalism and grace. The hotel is an historic building, sympathetically and tastefully renovated, and providing the best in understated elegance India-style - the ambience is elegant in a relaxing, airy... More

The old Ahilya Fort and family seat of the Holkars, this is a real slice of Indian history. Rooms are individually styled and comfortable. The gardens are beautiful with secluded seating and a busy kitchen garden which supplies the hotel with fresh fruit and vegetables. There are quiet courtyards and a terrace where we enjoyed a stunning view of river... More

Live in history! This hotel is an old fort of the Holkar dynasty converted into a wonderful boutique hotel. The rooms are individually done and very interesting. The place has all the required amenities including a pool right on top of the fort! And a well stocked library which has kids books. Meals are excellent. Staff helpful. And the best... More
