This was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. Perhaps part of the joy of being at Maheshwar's Ahilya's Fort hotel is the relief of making it after a very difficult journey there. Nonetheless, a combination of beautiful rooms, amazing home grown food, dinner in a different part of the fort each night - including the ramparts in... More

strongly recommend this place. just to chill and romance. great varied cuisine, the warmest staff, Aimee and Kuntibai stand out. Now that roads have improved its barely 90 minutes to 2 hrs from Indore or a lovely 7 hr drive from Mumbai. mobile dining options, and beautiful spots all round the fort. the private cocktail trip with diyas on the... There is not doubt: it is a great location (overlooking the ghats), has nice rooms, excellent trained staff, nice pool, very good food (from its own organic plantatations), offers free champagne, drinks, free boat trip, in total a great atmosphere. Our stay was part of a package, so we did not know the single price of each accomodation. When we... More

this is a rustic refuge in the middle of India. Not a fancy glitzy hotel but an old modified Indian castle that looks across the Narmada River. Wonderful place to come and relax and explore the surrounding area or just read a book. Big clean rooms but traditional. This is not glitzy modern 21st century Oberoi type hotel but an... More

Aimee and her team made us feel so welcome at this small palace, which has been in the Holkar family for 3 centuries. We felt truly like guests. Part of its charm is the proximity to the daily life of the local Maheshwaris on the ghats below the fort. The meals are delightful mixtures of English and Indian cuisine. The... More

Stayed her for 2 nights - it was a very relaxing experience. Amy welcomed us to the hotel and personally showed us around. Rooms are nice and spacious - have the old world charm, No TV in the rooms - so good way to relax, think, ponder, talk. Personal attention is paid to every guest of this heritage hotel. Since... I could fill the page with superlatives about the hotel, the rooms, the grounds, the staff, the food, the location, etc.... In short, this is the nicest hotel experience that I have ever had - including some stays at Ritz Carlton hotels, Rock Resorts in the Caribbean, and top end hotels in Boston. I would love to return here and... More

I was here for four nights, and wished I could have stayed longer. I was genuinely sad to leave this little piece of paradise on earth. I strongly recommend a palace room - they are large and tastefully decorated. The fort is well kept, the beds are comfortable and the rooms are immaculately clean. What more can I say? This... More
