This place is a dump! We've stayed here twice and both times were awful. The heat doesn't work in the winter and the AC didn't work in the summer. It's VERY noisy all night long and was impossible to sleep. The restaurant is closed. The ice machine is broken. It's not very clean. The list goes on!

A very old hotel (dating back to 1904) and has had very few visible changes made. It is fascinating and transports you to another era (before air conditioning and television). That's right -- no AC and TV only in the "tavern" and a few rooms. Everything about the hotel is old but in a good way. Architecturally and historically very... More

This Inn is being renovated; it newly reopened under new management who has every customer service accommodation in mind. The available rooms are period furnished with updated bathroom facilities in a quaint town with biking and hiking trails nearby. A glass of wine on the rocker of the second floor porch is a wonderful way to unwind at the end... More

This property has a lot of charm. But that is all. If you are in pinch, like we were, you can stay there for a night but I wouldn’t plan vacation there. Our room had the filthy carpet, missing window in bathroom, broken window in bedroom (see pictures). The sheets and towels were clean, the shower curtain had mildew. Continental... More

The food was excellent as is the customer service. We sat on the front porch and enjoyed a glass of wine before we went in for dinner and my husband says it is the most relaxing time he has enjoyed in the last year. This is a relaxing town, great fall foliage rides, great food and great ambiance. The room... More

We chose this route to the Outer Banks for something different. Traveling from Pittsburgh, we took Route 250 through W VA to Va. We stopped for the night at this Inn. It was a very nice surprise and great place to stay.

We love to stay in historic hotels, and The Highland Inn was just perfect! Lovely, quaint rooms. The Black Sheep Tavern had nice, casual dining with good food and great service. Plan to return next time we're in the area.

with a birding group of about 14 people we were seated promptly and drinks were served quickly by two waitresses. I thought it would be too much for what seemed like a small operation but dinners were served in a timely fashion and were very good, not gourmet but very satisfying. The old Inn charm was wonderful and we were... More

I took my wife and elderly mother up for a one-night stay at the Highland Inn, and we couldn't have been more pleased. This place obviously has a lot of history...more, in fact, than can be absorbed in a single-night stay. So we saved some for next time. My mother loves the place to death, and she can be right... Wanna ditch the city with it's hustle and bustle? Here's your spot. Romantic and quaint, the Highland Inn offers charming rooms, each furnished with antiques. There are gorgeous views and total tranquility. The second floor has a beautiful porch overlooking Main Street. The restaurant has excellent food, prepared by chef Lisa, who has been there for a number of years.... More
