Hotel is conveniently located. It was built as a luxury hotel in the early 20s and maintains that look and feel today. It is clean, comfortable, and very well cared for. We had the luxury queen room and were not disappointed. The hotel restaurant, the Black Rooster, provides a very nice continental breakfast. This hotel is a terrific value!

We travel often up and down the I-81 corridor, and often look for places to stay off the beaten path. This one was a winner. The hotel was built in the early 1900s and was refurbished in 2006. The rooms are elegant and modern but with an old-timey feel, with the original doors and hardwood flooring. Prices are reasonable. The... More

We have stayed at the hotel several times. Yes, rooms are small but that generally goes with the territory in a historic property. The staff is always lovely. The Junior Executive Suite is the best-we stayed in the Executive Suite on our latest trip and the noise from some kind of a/c system or other fan was so loud that... More

My wife and I visited Marion for a wedding and booked a queen bed room here. The room itself is small. The bed takes up more than half of the main room. If we stayed here again I would book something larger. But the size of the room was not the point of the trip. The hotel staff were professional... More

I read several reviews with less-than-glowing remarks about the hotel, and almost didn't book. Glad I did, because this place was surprisingly delightful. Spotlessly clean. Excellent customer service. Great location (within a short walk of several restaurants). Fair price. Nice rooms (in remodeling, it looks like they had to sacrifice a few rooms on each floor so they could give... More

I am staying in this hotel 3 nights. I checked in around 9:45 pm on a Monday and the front desk staff was very accommodating and friendly. I parked in the covered parking area in the alley behind the hotel. It's exactly 1.5 hour drive from Roanoke. I stayed in room 312. The hotel is restored with a lot of... More

We booked a night at this hotel strictly on the prior reviews here on Trip Advisor. What a disappointment! Our room was very small, the bed was one of the worst we ever slept on in a hotel, dirty bathroom floor etc etc etc. To bring the luggage into the building you need to park in the rear parking area... We are very sorry your stay was not up to your expectations. Our hotel offers several different room types that have varying degrees of space. Our mattresses come from nationally recognized companies, with some guests even requesting the model numbers so that they can purchase one for themselves. As far as our dirty bathroom floor we have been noted by... More

We enjoyed our stay in this historic inn, and were surprised how interesting the little town of Marion was. Our room was cozy. We enjoyed watching the town life from the hotel balcony. Drawbacks were the thin walls - you could hear all your neighbors - and the abysmal breakfast.

I first stayed at the General Francis Marion Hotel due to business in Marion. I was tired of staying at "business" hotels and the actual lack of national chain hotels made my decision easy. To say I was surprised by my initial visit is an understatement; the friendliness of the hotel staff, the obvious history of the property, along with... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel on TripAdvisor. Praise from a "roadwarrior" who logs over 200 nights a year, is very meaningful to my staff and I. We appreciate your business. More
