Bernie was a very friendly and welcoming host for us and our Golden Retriever. We never thought we'd find a B&B that was large dog friendly, so we had looked at some of the hotel options in Lexington and frankly found them underwhelming, they all just looked old and run down. Through Trip Advisor I found the link for Rider's... More

We had a great time here. Our host Bernie, was a fantastic cook, funny, flexible, and courteous. The B&B was lovely and welcoming. Spotlessly clean! We have already rebooked for another weekend!

My family met at the Riders Rest B&B in Lexington, Va., this past weekend for a reunion. We took over the entire B&B, quickly making it our home away from home. Riders Rest combined a comfortable, homey feel with a touch of elegance. Innkeeper Bernie welcomed the children in our party--ages 5, 10, and 11--as well as the adults. We... More

A comfortable B&B, which provides all the amenities. The Blue Jay room is small and the bathroom was not immaculate as there was hair on the floor. The smell of bacon in the morning invaded the whole house and, even worse, our room and our clothes were malodorous the whole day. Having said, Bernie is a very charming man and... More

EXCEPTIONAL service and ammenitites! Bernie was a super host and the proximity to the horse park was perfect for us as we had many trips back/forth during the 4 day stay. We enjoyed the swallow and cardinal rooms which were wonderful and very much the comforts of home we hoped for during this stressful event for our daughter who was... More

Just back from a 5 night stay at Riders Rest. What a welcome we received from Bernie the Innkeeper even though we arrived just before midnight. He had upgraded us to the Kingfisher room even though we had booked the Swallow room. The room was fabulous, bed was massive and very comfortable and there was a beautiful claw foot bath.... More

The rooms where clean and fresh. His breakfast was a delicious experience. Bernie was very understanding about my food allergies, and made me a separate breakfast. We felt an instant connection to this wonderful house and charming host. Thank you Bernie, we will see you again. We hope our son will attend VMI or Annapolis... either way we will be... More

Our host Bernie provided us with an excellent room and a delicious breakfast each morning. We were located within minutes to Lexington, Buena Vista and Natural Bridge. It was great to return "home" each day to relax on the front porch to watch the sun set.

We booked Riders Rest as a mid-way stop off for our trip from PA to Asheville, and it turned out to be the highlight of our entire trip! We chose Riders bacause it was close to Rt. 81 and it was dog-friendly. We were so happy with our stay on the trip down that, instead of making the trip stright... More

I know it's corny to say this, but my wife and I felt instantly at home upon our welcome at Rider's Rest. Bernie, the innkeeper, is congenial, funny, entertaining, and engaged-- he goes out of his way to provide a comfortable and attractive atmosphere. You can have a quiet dinner, out of the way, on the front lawn gazebo-- watching... More
