A resort hotel like they don't make any more! A beautiful hotel, with amazing views across Carter's Creek, the Rappahannock, and onto the bay. The grounds are lovely, the pool and beach delightful. Service is friendly and thorough. The restaurant is great, and the cookies and milk in the lounge in the evening just the right touch. The only complaint... More

We recently had a three-night family gathering at The Tides Inn, and while the staff was unfailingly pleasant, the facilities have passed their prime and the food -- suprisingly hailed by some at TripAdvisor -- was absolutely bland. First, the food: since we have young children, we live on fruit . . . and every piece of fruit over the... More

The Tides Inn is a relaxing "resort" in an area with surprising few other options. The rooms are beautifully decorated and appointed. The beds were super comfy. The staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. The pool is one of the biggest I've seen at a hotel. The downside is the restaurant food. Uninspired, out dated, overpriced for... More

We have heard our friends rave about the Tides Inn for years now. This past weekend my husband surprised me with a night away at the Tides Inn for my birthday. We were both underwhelmed with the facility! The setting on the river is beautiful with lots of natural appeal, but the facility is very outdated. We had a room... More

My family of 4 stayed here last week after a spur-of-the-moment decision. We were supposed to spend that time in the Adirondacks, but awful weather had us heading south instead. Our criteria for finding a new vacation spot were: warm weather, water activities, family friendly, and within a 6 hour drive of Philly. The Tides Inn was our winner! For... More

We recently spent 4 nights at the Tides Inn for a 60th Birthday girls weekend. There were 8 of us so finding something we might all like was a challenge. We could not have been more pleased with our selection. There was so much to do- kayak, paddle-board,pontoon boat, and many more water activities. There's no time limit and no... More

You can be as active or relaxed as you want at the Tides Inn, a lovely, traditional resort on one of the many inlets of Virginia's Northern Neck. You are greeted warmly upon arrival, and the staff is helpful/friendly but not overly so. There's plenty to do on the resort: You can sail, kayak, paddleboard, swim, play golf, frisbee golf,... More

Thank you for your review and description of all that the Tides Inn has to offer. Just one caveat to your review The resort fee is $28.00 per room regardless of the number of occupants and as you so rightly say, includes so much. Gordon Slatford General Manager More

This place is an absolute gem. Great service, outstanding food, lots of activities (included in your stay), laid back, yet classy, and beautiful accommodations...and only 2.5 hours from home (without traffic). The Northern Neck is truly one of the most beautiful places is the US and the people of amongst the friendliest I've ever met. With one out if the... More

What you say is so true. We all travel the world looking for adventure and that perfect vacation spot and sometimes it is just around the corner, Maybe a staycation in your own neighborhood could be just the ticket and rather than hours in crowded airport lounges you could be chilling over a Lancaster lemonade on our terrace!. We had a wonderful weekend and really enjoyed the tranquility. The staff, room, and food were great, and we loved the setting. The grounds are beautiful. We even rented a boat and enjoyed exploring the waters. We hope to go back soon!

The Tides is a beautiful spot in a very interesting part of Virginia.... The room was great, the food was very good but the accommodations need upgrading and the grounds need more care. The beautiful water location needs some professional care for their landscaping... overgrown with invasives everywhere you look. The staff was very professional and courteous.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
On a lush peninsula in Virginia's historic Northern Neck, the waterfront Tides Inn has welcomed generations of friends and families who cherish the relaxed pace of local life and the Southern hospitality of our staff. Guests can learn to sail at the on-site sailing school or explore the calm waterways via paddle boards, kayaks and canoes while spotting golden eagles, osprey and herons. The 18-hole Golden Eagle golf course is a pleasantly challenging wooded course with water hazards, and there is also a Par-3 course, tennis, croquet, and spa, plus bicycles for pedaling into town. Our farm-to-table cuisine highlights oysters from the nearby Rappahannock River, and we're located on the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail with several Virginia wineries nearby. ... more   less
