I have had the pleasure of experiencing a few of the hotels and inns that designate themselves part of Relais & Chateau. I perhaps think The Clifton needs to revisit their partnership after my most recent visit. I stayed in The Shadwell suite, queen bed with sitting room. I thinks it's best to break it down by pros and cons.... More

I was travelling with my 13 year old son on a tour of the Civil War battlefields and we stayed at the Clifton Inn for one night as we travelled south. It was further away from our planned route than it looked on the map but it was well worth the drive. We had a lovely room (the Honeymoon Cottage)... More

The accommodation, surrounds and general feel of this Inn are wonderful. we were there at the peak of fall so the trees were in wonderful plumage. We didnt eat at the hotel except for breakfast as we were not interested in a degustation style menu - too long on the road and craving "simple food". Our only really negative comment... More

As I researched hotels to spend our fifth anniversary in the Charlottesville area, I discovered the picturesque and well-regarded Clifton Inn. According to the reviews, it seemed like a nice place to spend a few romantic days with my beloved wife. I reserved the only room not yet booked, the Delphinium Room, which was located in the Collina Farm Cottage... More

Clifton Inn is an excellent property with beautiful grounds. The rooms are beautiful and well-appointed. The pool is small but beautiful, the tennis court is good fun. Having said that, the hotel is very poorly managed. I do not mean to say that the people working there do not have good intentions but, rather, that the service is really not... More

We just celebrated our daughter's wedding at the Clifton Inn two weeks ago. From beginning to end it was the most wonderful, stress free experience we could have imagined. The staff is beyond fabulous, anticipated absolutely everything. A thought would literally be forming in my mind and Chelsea or Ben, or someone, was there executing it. The setting is breathtaking.... More

I invited four couples to come down to Charlottesville from DC to celebrate my husband's birthday at The Clifton Inn. I had seen the Inn featured on the cover of Washington Flyer Magazine. My husband and I stayed in the Thomas Mann Randolph suite and found it utterly charming. Plush pillows and glorious antiques surrounded us. Another couple who also... More

The property is beautiful, we stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We stayed in the Shadwell room which was at the end of the building and the most private. Walls are thin and rooms are "antique". Easy path down to the lake dock which has stunning views! Our main issue with the place was they... More

I had such an amazing stay at the Clifton Inn. I came with friends to visit family in Charlottesville, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again! We were greeted immediately by Vinny at the front desk, who kindly showed us to our rooms. We had enough time to explore the grounds and walk a few of the trails around... More

I stayed here recently and will never go back. The suite itself was nicely laid out. But, as previous reviews have commented, my room (as well as each of the separate rooms of the people I was traveling with) were absolutely infested with stink bugs. I saw at least 15 of them in my room during my 1-night stay. And... More
