You must know that this is a BASIC hiking lodge. It's not an elegant mountain retreat (and doesn't ever claim to be) so it's a little unfair to rate it as such. We will use it again for a good, reliable home base for beautiful mountain hikes. Pros: * An EXCELLENT location for great hikes along the Blue Ridge. There's... More

I didn't book a room here expecting five-star luxury, just a nice place to relax and enjoy the scenery. But for the price, I imagined there would be at least standard amenities in the rooms (other than TV and WiFi, which they explicitly state that they don't have). But the room did not even offer a hairdryer. I'm not sure... More

My daughter thought this would be the highlight of our 10 day road trip. One look at the cinder block walls and realizing there was no phone or TV in the room quickly dispelled her of that notion. The next morning when she further realized that there was no hairdryer which meant she could not shower and wash her hair... More

I thought the pictures of the lodge looked great. I was looking forward to staying here. When we inspected the room after checking in, my wife looked at the bed and noticed the sheets appeared to be used by someone with a bloody nose and had not been changed. There was no way we were sleeping on that, so we... More

We enjoyed only one night at Peaks of Otter on our trip south on Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Do not book this accommodation expecting 5 star comfort as it is the surroundings, the serenity and the pure beauty of nature that will make it an experience you will not forget. No interruptions from electronic frivolities. Take a... More

Simple but comfortable lodge on serene lake in the mountains. If driving the BRP do not miss. Gorgeous in the fall. Rooms basic and stark, not romantic, but you come for the location. Get up early and walk the lake. Good restaurant. Highly recommended. It is what it is. Were fortunate to get mid Oct cancellation. Very glad we had... More

Peaks of Otter can be really good or or just ok, depending on what you're looking for. Rooms are basic, basic, basic but clean with an outstanding view of lake. No phone, no clock, no tv, no wi-fi, little to no cell service, no frills room. Balcony with lovely view of lake from which you might see deer, with not... More

Pros: Location, location, location. Views. Access to trails. The D-day memorial in Bedford. Cons: Very modest accommodations. No restaurant reservations. Prepayment of rooms. Fall reservations for this hotel must be booked a year in advance for those hoping to see the North Carolina fall colors from the balcony of their room. Those not so lucky should check every day by... More

This lodge is older, I think, but is very basic. Nothing wrong - just not really cozy. The outdoor area is beautiful - and it's miles from the highway - and there are some trails. However, the walls are cement blocks, and it's just basic. However - it is clean and friendly. I suggest the upper floor - as the... More

Fantasic location on the Blue Ridge Parkway overlooking tranquil lake - otters, birds and deer at hand. Rooms fairly basic but very clean and typical of NP lodges. Good food in the restaurant with lake views. Good variety of hiking from the lodge. More
