This was the perfect Vermont lodge experience on our loop trip around New England! It's an older lodge building, with no TV or phones in the rooms, and WiFi only in the living room. Each room has a small balcony. Our room was small but very comfortable--& from our balcony, we saw 3-4 species of birds & many chipmunks! Downstairs... More

We spent one night here on our way home. It was very nice mountain retreat. Wish we could have stayed longer. Very relaxing! Loved the setting and watching the birds and chipmunks. Very comfy bed! Close to many points of interest.

Excellent breakfast in front of the window where the birds are also enjoying their breakfast. If you are a birder this would be like heaven. Trails right out the back of the property, and a wonderful map laid out which we could follow to find covered bridges and waterfalls in a great loop.

We came up for a night in late May and had a lovely time. Priced well for the area. Linda is an excellent host. She let us check in early so we could make our event. We also brought our dog and stayed in one of the cabins. The cabin was very nice - clean, cute and comfortable. Breakfast was... More

Although we have tried several other options in the Waitsfield area, we keep returning here because of the excellent service & warm, cozy feeling. Grunberg Haus is well located in Waterbury, close to excellent restaurants & ski areas. Linda & Jeff are very attentive. We had a light bulb out & it was fixed immediately. We enjoyed relaxing before their... More

We had a wonderful time here. Owner made us a lovely fire, we had a bunch of kids and we felt at home. Incredible morning coffee watching the birds. We snow shoed in the morning. Again, if you want the conveniences of a hotel and pool - you should go to a hotel.

If you're looking for cookie cutter rooms and perfectly level floors, this is not the place for you. If you enjoy quirky buildings with an interesting detail around every corner, you'll love it. Quilts, stained glass, and a variety of creative wood trim appear in all sorts of unexpected places. There's a game room that came alive in the evening... More

I can see how some people love this place, but we did not. Overall, the Haus is old, a bit neglected, tired and worn. You get the feeling that at one time this place may have been charming but it feels like not much has been invested in the upkeep and maintenance of an aging establishment: carpets are worn, the... Pros: the breakfast was excellent. The hosts Jeff and his wife were friendly and helpful. He lit a fire every night which made it cozy. Cons: you could hear everything in the room next to ours, which was very uncomfortable. I would have liked better linens and sheets. I don't think I'd return.

The owner explained this B & B was built by the original owners who came from Germany and reproduced the building as one from their homeland. It is beautifully built with beams, gingerbread, stone and unmatching pieces of natural materials: just as it should be. If you want a chain hotel, this isn't for you. As others commented, the floors... More
