Just came back from an overnight. Pool and jacuzzi "open 8am to 8pm"; however, when I went down for a swim at 9:30am the pool was not open as it was being cleaned. Another couple came down to use the jacuzzi which was also closed for cleaning. Would recommend these facilities be cleaned before opening time.

A night I will never forget. We had driven six hours looking forward to a classic chalet lodge. As we made our way up the dimly lit hill to the lodge, the weather strangely seemed to make a turn for the worse. By the time we were in the parking lot the wind was howling -- crying. Looking back, I... More

Thank you for your feedback! There have been many changes here at the Stowehof in the Year since you stayed. All rooms have Flatscreen Televisions and all the linens were replaced in May of 2014. I am sure it still has the mystique and feeling of an Austrian Lodge and we still do occasionally loose power during major storms like... More

Booked 1 night at Stowehof for a quick trip. We enjoyed the stay overall. It's certainly a unique property, where seemingly not much has changed since it's heyday in the 60's. But we found it charming. Room was comfortable and large, bathroom had everything we needed. No issues with water temp or pressure. The pool was clean and refreshing. There... More

Being a native German, I spent much of my childhood and youth vacationing in Bavaria and other places in the European Alps. The Stowehof Inn wonderfully emanates the same cozy, rustic, alpine charm as many places that I've stayed at in Europe. My husband and I had a king-size room on the second floor with gorgeous views of the mountains... More

If you want a modern contemporary resort style hotel this one is not for you. However if you like the atmosphere of a family run establishment that is a little more rustic this is a great choice. The pool side view of the mountains is spectacular where we sat each evening for dinner and watched the moon rise. Great weekday... More

Pros: *Food: Amazing mushroom ravioli, good breakfast (complimentary with every room) *Wifi: There is decent wifi throughout the building. *Romance: This is the most romantic place that I have every been with my fiancé. We were so relaxed in this space. We even took our engagement photos on site (with staff permission, of course). *Cozy: The room we had was... More

We stayed at the Stowehof for a wedding recently. It's a very cute, cozy looking Inn with lots of interesting decor and character. When we arrived we couldn't find anyone to greet us or check us in. It looked like staff wandering around, but no one asked if they could help us. We finally checked in and were pretty disappointed... More

Pluses; Beautiful location. Downstairs pub has good food, but poor service. Large room. Minuses; Housekeeping could be improved; Two huge stains on our carpet, light bulb not working, after using, found my towel had a huge stain on it. Yuk. Would recommend they place coffee pots in the rooms. Customer service in the restaurants and front desk could be improved.... More

We appreciate your insight to your stay. The Stowehof is not a modern facility, built in 1949. As all buildings of its age stairs are highly utilized and individuals who cannot navigate stairs will be unable to easily take advantage of the many services we have to offer. We will review this with our staff to better ensure that guests... More

Our first visit to the Stowe area. It is a beautiful mountain setting. The rooms are older but clean. the beds need updating as the mattresses are flat and there are mattress toppers on them that don't fit particularly well. Our dinner was very nice in the pub downstairs.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Stowehof Inn is one of the last classic alpine inns in ski country. Steeped in classic decor and the site of Alan Alda's movie "Four Seasons", the inn represents the eclectic beginnings of America's love affair with Austrian alpine design and skiing. Built in the late 40's the Stowehof sits on a 30 acre estate looking up on the ski trails of the Stowe Ski Resort. ... more   less
