It's been a year since I was there and it's good to see that the place hasn't changed.... for the better. Most of the reviews are pretty accurate: dirty place, tiny rooms, disgusting bathrooms (my girlfriend at the time made me put a towel on the floor so she could walk in there), thread bare carpets. The "lobby" or common... more

Some may call it rustic; I call it decrepit. Overgrown grounds, unavailable owners/staff, disgustingly dirty kitchen, tiny smelly rooms. Having the owner greet me drunk should have been my signal to run, but after traveling seven hours, and getting there on the biggest fall colors weekend of the year, there was nowhere else to go. I thought it was a... more

We stayed for 3 nights this weekend and really appreciated the "country inn" experience. The Butternut Inn has nice cozy rooms and I personally don't understand the bad reviews about the dirtiness or smell of the place, everything was OK for us. Maybe a little noisy, but we think that this is part of the charm of an old country... more

We 've just come back from Stowe. I am pleased to see and share my disappointed opinion about the Butternut Inn. Totally agree : no services, dirty, bad smell, noisy. Let me explain in details : - nobody for the check in, nobody fot the check out - when we arrived in our room, the linens had not been changed... more

We arrived at 4:30 on June 3rd to check into the Butternut Inn to find the place wide open with no one around except for another individual waiting to check in. He was visibly angry as he had been waiting 1.5 hours to check in and no one ever showed up. There was a wireless phone available and a number... more

What a lovely little place to stay! Stowe is one of the most beautiful places we have ever travelled to and we were not dissapointed by this quaint bed and breakfast. From the moment we walked in the door they were wonderfully friendly and very helpful. The room was nice and the bed comfortable with a beautiful view out our... more

My husband & I recently stayed at the Butternut Inn in Stowe, VT for our last getaway before our first child. Upon arrival, we were a bit disappointed by the smell and overall condition of the inn. Apparently, there was some type of plumbing issue that occurred the night before and the second floor had collapsed into the base level.... more

Very relaxing atmosphere. Rustic inn with a downstairs gameroom. We played pool and darts in the evening and explored the large inn. Wonderful, hearty breakfast in the morning! Very enjoyable. more

My wife, 2 year old daughter and i enjoyed our 2 night stay at Butternut Inn. It is cosy, comfortable and conveniently located. the hosts, Janis and Parker are warm, friendly people and gave us good advice on things to do in Stowe. The game room and the eclectic furniture/decor is a nice touch as well. - Ajay more

We had frequently visited Stowe and had always stayed at the Butternut Inn while the previous owners (Wimberly) had run it. We reluctantly returned because we felt those experiences over a 15 year period could never be replicted...we were right. The current owners (Parkers) have destroyed the ambiance, beauty and friendliness of the place. We found the rooms dirty, the... more
