The Inn is a former summer home of the Vanderbilts and part of Shelburne Farm, which now operates as a nonprofit education centre, with proceeds from the Inn and restaurant going towards the preservation of the centre and grounds. This goes some way towards lessening the pain of the hefty price tag! My partner and I stayed one night in... More

I have reviewed this inn in previous years and the comments I made in October 2013 generally still apply to this review of our October 2014 visit. We always look forward to staying here and it is usually at the end of our annual foliage time visit to New England and Vermont. We keep this inn until last because the... More

We recently stayed at the Inn at Shelburne Farms on the last night of the season. I had read about it online before traveling to Vermont for business and a short holiday, but was unable to make a reservation before departing. When we drove to Burlington, I suggested that we drive out to Shelburne Farms to check it out for... More

What a treat to stay at the Inn! I had previously come for afternoon tea on several occasions and peered in the rooms, hoping one day to stay in one of those lovely spaces. Lovely, spacious room with gorgeous furnishings. What a great night's sleep!

we recently spent three nights at the Inn at Shelburne Farms. A beautiful place. The hotel has the old time charm, large comfortable rooms a wonderful restaurant. Most of the food comes from their own farms and therefor is fresh and beautiful prepared. The only downside was, that the Restaurant is too small for the hotel guest and outside diners... More

THis and the Inn at Biltmore stand head and shoulders above the rest. If you are looking for a place to decompress and relax, reconnect with a loved one, and breathe deeply, this is the place for you! On Lake Champlain, the air is clean, the views amazing, and the grounds restorative. There's a barn with milk cows and you... More

We stayed at the farm inn for 2 nights. The rooms are excellent. Thanks god there are no modern systems like heating, tv, well equipped bath rooms etc. But it is so warm inside both for services and human relations. It is now operated by non profit organization. This old family home makes you go old times. There are surely... More

Spending a few days here at Sheburne Farms Inn and I don't want to leave. As other reviewers report it's a somewhat refurbished inn that was once the country estate of a member of the Vanderbilt family. The rooms and the public areas are a truly a step back in time, but a good step back. If in the right... More

A magnificent historic mansion on the shore of Lake Champlain, this inn is run by a nonprofit organization. The food is excellent, and if you eat early enough and the weather is good, you may be able to snag a table on the patio and enjoy your dinner while the sun sets over the water. But the seating is first... More

For anyone interested in either historic preservation or sustainable farming, this is the perfect place to go. The hotel was sensitively restored in 1987, and still gives you the feeling the Vanderbilt heirs just left. Some typical hotel creature comforts are missing--no AC or heating systems. However, with the hotel located on the northern promontory of a peninsula surrounded by... More
