Highly recommended to all who seek a getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life to an elegant mansion and estate from a bygone era. The mansion still has about 70% of its original furnishings and is well decorated, clean, and comfortable. The estate's 1,400 acres are perfect for long walks, watching nature and the autumn foiliage, and picnics.... more

We visited Shelburne Farm with our three kids (all under 6) and had an amazing time! WThis is a truly beautiful and magical place. We ran around on a huge lawn overlooking the lake, swung in a discovered hammock, rowed a canoe out to a deserted beach, visited the organic farm, milked cows, caught chickens, nibbled on a picnic at... more

I have to say that this was one of the most delightful experiences we have had in a long time. Shelburne Farms itself is a very special place. There are over 1400 acres of land to explore- and some beautiful hikes/walks. We felt like we took a step back over 100 years - the views were incredible and the lake... more

It was perfect -- better than any of us expected even based on the website. The hotel staff were wonderful. Our room was spacious and comfortable -- and came with complimentary cheese from the Shelburne farm and some apples for a perfect afternoon snack. The Inn itself is a historic building worth poking around and taking a look. There is... more

The Inn at Shelburne Farms is a magical place; you feel as if you are transported back into a simpler, gentle place in time. The drive from the guard's gate to the Inn sets the tone. You drive through pasturelands, sweeping views of meadow and lake, cows placidly grazing and immense well-kept barns. It's the essence of Vermont a hundred... more

My husband and I stayed at Shelburne Farms on our honeymoon in New England. It cost pretty much more than all our other accommodation put together but was well worth it. It is the most amazing, luxurious place I have ever stayed. The room we had was massive and beautifully decorated with lots of antique pieces. The surroundings are stunning,... more

First the postives: Wonderful location, a working farm with a wonderful view of Lake Champlain and the mountains of NY on the other side. Photos of inn from the outside will look great. The food was wonderful. The negatives: Service staff seems to be mostly well meaning but utterly untrained college kids. If you have ever been to a Ritz... more

This place is an old estate on the grounds of a working farm. The location is world class - perched on top of hill with 360 degree views of both the farm and estate as well as the lake. The house is an enormous mansion that has a ton of character. Rooms have a huge range some are a large... more

The Inn gets mixed reviews here and I understand that. My guess is half the world would love it and half not care for it at all. The Inn is a historic property, the circa 1900 home of one of the Vanderbilt daughters and her husband who created a model farm that also served to demonstrate how to conserve the... more

We stayed at Shelbourne Farms over labor day weekend and the experience was rather sad. The grounds were breaktaking, very similar to Olmstead's other Vanderbilt property-the Biltmore in Asheville, NC. What struck both my husband and me was that it should have been a much better experience than it was. It was apparent that the house itself has seen much... more
