For anyone interested in either historic preservation or sustainable farming, this is the perfect place to go. The hotel was sensitively restored in 1987, and still gives you the feeling the Vanderbilt heirs just left. Some typical hotel creature comforts are missing--no AC or heating systems. However, with the hotel located on the northern promontory of a peninsula surrounded by... More

This was the second time me and my family experienced Shelburne Farms beauty and liveliness. Me, as the country girl in the family, nearly exploded with joy as I skipped along the trails in the pouring rain, paraded across the meadow and small forests on my way to skipping rocks down by the lake, met cattle as they munched grass... Shelburne Farms has to be one of the most amazing spots in Vermont to stay, eat and relax. The grounds which hug the scenic Lake Champlain coastline are immaculate. The "farm" itself boasts its own bakery and "cheese shop" making it a perfect spot for families. The Inn has its very own full service restaurant with a gorgeous patio that... More

This property is so special that the Inn could be pretty marginal and it would still be worth staying here, but the Inn at Shelburne Farms is far from marginal. It's like staying in a museum, and you get to touch all the furniture! Somehow they achieve this while keeping it 'period stylish', yet very kid friendly. We have stayed... More

Everything from the location, the service and the available activities make this a very special place. We go every year and enjoy the views , the hiking trails, the farm and the fabulous food. There is a great gift shop there as well and a farm market. Fresh bread from O Bakery. You can't go wrong!

This is the most beautiful place we have ever stayed at - picking our room from on-line pictures, we chose the Rose Room which was an excellent choice with a view of the Lake and beautiful furnishings. I had researched things to do in the area but we never needed to look at the list. The Inn is enough in... More

I showed up a day early according to the Manager, but they were very accommodating and welcoming (not sure if it was their mistake or mine). I couldn't believe it when they upgraded our room at no extra cost from 3rd floor with no bath to a 2nd floor with private bath. Lovely lake view. Clean and very spacious room... More

We just spent two nights (July 8&9) and we had a great time. We were in the Pottery Cottage which is a good sized cottage about 50 yards from the main Inn. It had a complete kitchen, a fenced back yard with table and chairs where we ate take out and wine from a nearby deli. That saved us two... More

Seldom will one have such a beacon experience as Shelburne is, here in the slap-dash, replace-it /toss-it 21st century USA. This estate was built for enduring presence and under centuries-dependable values (tho ironically its financial foundation came from the hard-fisted, even crooked C Vanderbilt, whose grandson-in-law and granddaughter conceived Shelburne). The inn rates are fairly high partly for the worthy... More

We stayed at Shelburne Farms for our second time recently. The first was in late fall when we stayed at the Inn. This time we stayed in the Vineyard Cottage in May. This has to be one of the most beautiful locations in Vermont. It is a Registered National Historic Landmark sitting on 1400 acres conceptually designed by Frederick Law... More
