Stayed here for 2 nights in October 2011. We loved our stay here. It was so relaxing and peaceful. They have thought of everything. A clean place and a good bed are our priorities. This place exceeded our expectations in every area possible. They have thought of and covered everything, no stone left unturned.

Our daughter just moved to Montpelier and we needed a place to stay in her area. We had met the owner, Doug, by chance on Block Island last November and since he gave us his card we decided to call and stay at his B&B for the weekend. Well, now we know where we will stay whenever we come up... More

We found this wonderful B&B through all the great reviews on trip advisor. I must say the reviews were right on! Doug was a great host and an even more wonderful chef. His breakfast was the best of our 9 day trip. Doug was a great conversationalist and the place was immaculate. The linens were top of the line. Our... More

We stayed here for three night stop off our way to Montreal. What a little find! Upon arrival, we were greeted by Doug who showed us round. We had a good double room, a living lounge area and bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath! We also had a complementary bottle of wine left out, which was a wonderful gesture and we... More

We've stayed in quite a few B&Bs in the U.S. and Canada. The 1850 House is one of the best we've experienced. It was just the two of us and we had the place to ourselves as their is only one accommodation. The place is quite old, as the name conveys, so it has a dowager's charm. Don't expect slick... More

After visiting 3 different B&B's while on our 2 week vacation, 1850 River House was the best B&B by far, hands down. Doug and Libby served fantastic breakfasts. What excellent chefs they are. After an excellent night of sleep and a huge breakfast we were able to hike every day of our visit. The trails are very close. It was... More

I must start this review by thanking Doug & Libby (proprietors) at the 1850 River House for making our stay with them simply awesome. The river house is located about 6 miles from downtown Montpelier. The two story home is wonderfully decorated while being warm and cozy. We truly felt comfortable and welcomed during our stay. Doug and Libby went... More

The 1850 River House is a nice, quiet location just down the road from Montpelier, but within walking distance to the Red Hen Bakery (for amazing breads and the requisite coffee/lattes) and a delicious homemade ice cream place. Doug and Libby are great, accommodating hosts who make amazing breakfasts, often with food straight from their lush garden. We ate so... More
