My wife and I are newlywed healthcare professionals and we were looking for a fun weekend trip. We booked the new Amtrak Vermonter train from Springfield, Ma to Montpelier, VT and discreetly brought aboard a nice bottle of wine, some cheese, crackers, and a warm blanket. On the weekend of our travel (1/10/15) it was very cold and we had... More

This is fun hotel, its an older building but nicely renovated. Its in an ideal location, downtown with easy walk to restaurants and about 40 minutes to great skiing (that's why we stayed there). Very nice front desk staff, clean rooms, comfy beds. It doesn't have a pool, that was about the only downside.

I stayed for 2 nights at the Capitol Plaza, and would return there in a heartbeat. Rooms are comfortable and clean. The State House is diagonally across the street, so it's easy to hoof it over there for meetings. Free Internet and Keurig coffee in the room, and a relatively small, but well equipped fitness room with state of the... More

Stayed on the 2nd floor and my room was sandwiched between offices. Yes, they have offices in the middle of the hotel. You know you won't have any rowdy neighbors. Nice lobby and the hotel is very convenient for walking around the quaint town. The rooms need a bit of updating, but they were very clean.

We had a very pleasant stay here for a few days in December, visiting friends who live on the town. The rooms are a decent size, clean and well heated. Furnishings are a bit dated but by American regional standard perfectly reasonable. Service was excellent throughout. We had a good breakfast (the weekend buffet) and an excellent dinner - the... The people at the Capitol Plaza could not be nicer. The hotel is older, and somewhat dated with a combination of attributes from each of the last several decades. However, any shortfall in aesthetics is made up by the wonderful staff and location of the hotel. Just really a nice, comfortable place to be, especially during the holidays when everything... More

For such a tiny hotel without any services was surprised by the hidden fees when you book through an online service. Additionally taxes not included in quoted rates so much more costly than expected. Tiny old room with cold wind coming through the windows.

I stayed one night before a business meeting. So refreshing not to be in a chain hotel. Room was large, very clean and comfortable. Some noise from the street but not enough to keep me awake. Restaurant in hotel was not only convenient but also very good for both dinner and breakfast. All in all, a treat.

Spotless, large room, lovely carpet, divine bed, impressive flat screen TV, flattering mirrors, exotic toiletries, friendly reception, easy parking, easy walk to Vermont College of Fine Arts, well located downtown. Nice and quiet.
