My husband and I stayed at The Essex for two nights for a short getaway. The inn has a main building with two wings, thus it is much like a u shape. The main part is I believe the original building and I found that to be more charming than the wings. The room we stayed in, in the main... More

My husband and I just came back from a 3-day tennis vacation at the Essex resort. It was amazing! When we arrived we were assigned apparently one of the nicest rooms in the resort, which was well appreciated of course. I can't say for the the regular rooms but the one-bedroom fireplace suite was great! We played tennis for three... More

We stayed at the Essex for two nights, and really enjoyed it. Lovely grounds, with indoor and outdoor pools, tennis, a big spa, walking trails and golf, too. We enjoyed "the Amusing Hour", which was a pre-dinner hors d'euvres and drink event with the master chef. Dinner at the hotel restaurant, Amuse, was wonderful. And I did see a family... More

We got a room here through Hotwire and it was a great deal. The resort is clean, well manicured, and food was delicious. The outside pool was a bit small but it was nice. The outdoor hammocks were a nice touch. We had booked the hotel for a stay before a 5am flight and it was a bit farther than... More

You know, the one at the very end of the hall (because you got it off a discount website). Window was very small with a desk in front BUT that was because we were overlooking the service area and monster trash bin. The A/C sounded like the cross between a 1950's twin prop on start up and the planet annihilating... More

We tried The Essex for a second time last week. The first time, we loved the property and the spa but the food was disappointing. This time everything was disappointing. We had rooms in The Manor building. And the furniture was tired. We asked where the ice was and were sent to another building in the basement. The overall service... More

Beautiful hotel, gorgeous grounds, relaxing spa, AMAZING FOOD!! Stay here!! You won't regret one single minute! Their attention to detail is second to none! They take such good care of you, you won't want to leave! Saw lots of pets too, so nice to find a pet-friendly hotel. Oh, and don't forget the gift of free chocolate upon checkin!

We spent two nights here as part of a culinary, gastronomic anniversary trip. Chef's table at amuse, breakfasts at amuse and the cooking class were all great. Even the Tavern (cheaper restaurant) looked to have great food- we enjoyed drinks and truffled fries. Room was pretty average (fireplace and bathrobes are a nice touch, but it was 90 degrees!). Service... More

Had dinner at the Tavern on Thursday 7-19-12 party of 4. I ordered the LaPlatte Burger and was asked how i want it cooked, replied medium and had a well done burger placed in front of me. The waitress apolagized and said we will cook you another one, waited for the second burger, prepared it, then cut it in half,... More

This place is great! We went here for our one year anniversary because it was close to home (Montreal) and seemed alike a cute place. It was beyond our expectations! It had an indoor/outdoor pool, outdoor jacuzzi, full spa (where we got massages, an outdoor adventure area where you can zip line etc. the restaurant was amazing. Rather than gk... More
