We had such a fantastic experience last year, we decided to return. The staff (except the bartender on his last day working for the hotel who ignored us to talk with 2 gentlemen at the bar) were helpful and friendly. The spa experience was fantastic worth every penny. The food which was the highlight of our trip last year and... More

We only stayed here one night. Could have just as well wound up at a motel. Lucky us! The place is elegant. We arrived rather late in the evening, checked in, and went to one of their two restaurants for dessert. They have a culinary program here too, so we may have had student-produced goodies. The bed was great, as... More

We had to be in the Essex area on business so I searched Trip Advisor for hotels. I booked The Essex in late January before all the snowstorms hit New England. We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon (2/25) and stayed through a Friday mid-morning. We are Maine natives and accustomed to snowstorms, plowing and sidewalk shoveling. The parking lots are... More

I have always loved going to The Essex, but recently it has not been a good experience. I have given it 3 times to make sure I wrote an accurate review, but unfortunately nothing has changed. The food has been inconsistent at best. Our server, and I wish I could remember her name, was good, but for the prices we... More

I have a hard time believing this is a four diamond property. First the Pro's: Cooking class with Chef Anthony was amazing. The bed and pillows were comfortable.Room had a Keurig which I appreciated. Small kitchenette. Took a ride and had a great time in Burlington. Now the cons: To say the decor was outdated was an understatement. 1980s wallpaper,... More

Dear mg978, I am happy to read that the Cook Academy Class with Chef Anthony, the bedding and room amenities as well as the kitchenette exceeded your expectations. On the other hand it is unfortunate to read we may have missed the opportunity to do the same regarding some other issues. Our Facilities team has a comprehensive preventive maintenance program... We stayed 3 days with the romantic getaway package and had a wonderful experience! The room was surprisingly large, the spa was very relaxing (we got 50 minute couples massage), the steam room was also a nice addition to our stay, as was the outdoor hot tub. We had a 3 course meal at the Junction room and had great... More

Dear Scarey1986, It is great to hear you had a wonderful stay with us for your three night romantic getaway. Our Director of Facilities and his team are in the midst of a room refresh project that addresses the "outdated" concerns you have expressed. Hopefully you will consider a return visit to have a look at the results. Naz Jenulevich... More

We ended up at the Essex after our honeymoon trip to Europe got cancelled because of snow, and let me tell you, we were THRILLED we did! This ended up being a perfect vacation and honeymoon for us and we enjoyed every aspect of it! The first sign that this was going to be a great vacation was when we... More

A group of us spent this past weekend (President's Day Weekend) at the resort. We had a great time. The resort was so pretty especially at night when it was all lit up. The staff was so nice & helpful. Our were rooms were nice & spacious. There were only two things that I was disappointed with. Although the room... More

Dear lgrondzki, Thank you for enjoying your stay with us. It is regrettable that we were not able to provide you with the opportunity to experience one of our Spa treatments. The Spa team is well known for their professionalism and restorative abilities. Hopefully you will consider a return visit sometime in the future. If so, please be sure to... More

Spent Presidents Day at the hotel and relaxed. Nice to just park and not have to go anywhere. Great service, comfortable room, perfect hot tub and spa area. We were going to eat at the Junction but the Tavern was available for seating when we got hungry. All enjoyed good food. Can't go wrong.

I would give The Essex a much better rating if the room hadn't been so horrible! We're locals who go to Montreal for our anniversary every year. We stayed in town this year, and booked a night at The Essex. The spa was beautiful, and the services (massage for him, detox body scrub for me) were great. The meal in... More

Dear funky_vermont, It is great to hear you chose to celebrate your anniversary with us and that you enjoyed the food, Spa and found our associates to be hospitality professionals. It is most unfortunate that you found the room accommodations to be less than you expected. I assure you this is not typical or acceptable to me either. The response... More
