This is a quaint, old time hotel. The rooms were spacious, and the beds had great mattresses. For us, the heaters worked well, which was a good thing. Don't expect large tv's with many channels--that's not why you go to this part of Texas anyhow.

We stayed here last week. The shower was moldy, the sinks were stained, the tiles were cracked, the "jacuzzi" didn't fill and the hot water stopped working; the bathroom shower door didn't close and the bathroom had some weird cheap closet bifold door with no handle on the bathroom side (it didn't matter since the thing didn't close anyway) and... For the price, the El Dorado is a deal. The staff are friendly and accommodating; rooms are clean although basic. It also has a restaurant /bar and a deck to watch the sunset over the mountains. For a funky ,eclectic town, this is a good place to stay . They allow pets, too!

Listen. There is nothing fancy about Terlingua. El dorado is basic and gritty, but after a long hike, you'll have the best shower and best sleep of your life. We watched the sunset in the park and then headed to the restaurant. They basically said there was a two hour wait and that we should order a burger because they... More

This hotel and the people who work there and run it are wonderful, and give a real sense of the community spirit of Terlingua. We stayed during the 3-4 day power outage just after New Year's, during which El Dorado kept its doors open, cooking on the grill and keeping the restaurant open, going out of their way to keep... The El Dorado hotel is very basic, no flashy amenities, no fancy pool, hot tub or pillow mints. BUT....The El Dorado hotel is clean (very clean) comfortable and great food near by. The bed was super comfortable, sheets and room were clean. Shower was decent temperature but if you are one who likes super hot water, it probably won't happen.... More

For $111 we got a tiny double bed room with plywood walls. You have to turn on the water heater to get a warm shower. However, we waited the 25-30 minutes and still had to take a freezing cold showers. It was horrible. Their "tv" was the size of a computer. If that. This place is a joke.

We stayed at the el dorado for two nights. The first night we stayed in room with a full size bed, not big enough for us. So the next night we switched to a room with king size. It was great. The restaurant and bar were friendly and fun. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I've read some bad reviews... More

This was a strange hotel. Our upstairs room was oddly laid out and, well, just odd. The TV was up high with no remote. The restaurant in the adjacent building (part of the hotel) had dirty floors. Although we didn't eat in the restaurant, the staff was most accommodating when I requested coffee cups and spoons for our hotel room... More

The location on the Sonoma Plaza put us in the heart of this charming little town. The 27 rooms are in the heart if this gold rush era hotel and there is the constant noise from the popular bar and excellent restaurant. For young people attending a local wedding, the rooms are fine. Who needs sleep. In the future we... More
