The Gruene River Outpost lodge is just off the beaten track from I-35, behind all the highway hotels, in an idyllic little spot on the river where you can find relaxation and plenty of green for sore eyes. The management and staff there are rebuilding this site and are very accommodating and hospitable. Charles, in charge of the reconstruction, initiates... More

Yes, this place is rustic, BUT, it is filthy and is a dump. It is outrageously overpriced. No one ever came to clean our room. We checked in and were greeted in our room by a live lizard, live and dead roaches, and a cracked toilet seat. They did not replace the toilet seat, but did repair it with tape.... More

Stayed one night over Labor Day and it was one night too many. Location is great, but if I could have simply pitched a tent on the grounds, it would have been a better stay. Room was dirty and very outdated. Toilet was loose and moved around. Floors and walls were filthy and the pool looked like a lab experiment... More

Great location, but MAJOR need of help! We stayed over the RECORD BREAKING FLOAT WEEKEND 7/23-7/27.... and everywhere on the river was a happening spot.... except here! We were here from Wednesday to Sunday and the pool was not cleaned once! Upon arrival, after paying for one of the rooms with a full size fridge, we found that the room... More

Completely dissatisfied. Location is great. Pool was cloudy, and a lot of leaves, trash. No chairs or lounges at the pool. Grounds not kept up, mowed, etc. buildings are neglected, rotting, holes in walls, bugs, ants. Would not recommend or go back. River access is not good.

This is not a good place to stay and I totally wish that I would have checked trip advisor before booking this place. The beds are the creakiest, nosiest beds I have ever slept in. They are at least 20 years old. The tile floors turned our feet black after walking around for just a few minutes. Needless to say,... More

Checked in on Friday 6/20/14. The tiny room they put us in for $160 a night had no fridge or microwave and the grounds around were overgrown. We were then move right upstairs to another room and the toilet leaked water everywhere. They moved us again. The 3rd room was bigger but one of the beds had a giant crater... More

I LOVE THE GRUENE OUTPOST!!!! The river trips used to be so hectic until we started staying here! IT is just so convenient, they run a shuttle from the lodge and you get your tube from them as well. They have multiple float options (we always go on the long float so we are out of the city limits!) Honestly... More

The rooms are nasty. Simply put. We had room 183. The mattress was probably 20 years old and had a HUGE crater in the middle of it. I shared the bed with my fiancé and we both rolled into the middle of the bed all night long. I woke up SO stiff both nights we stayed. The fold out futon... More
