I've been in this park many times before. The last time was in 2010, and this time OMG nature has change it! The lake is empty. We could walk to the little island when we use to swim there. It has no water!! Sites are ok as before but need improvement. Hiking are still amazingly nice. We need to visit... More

Been many times. Only gets better. Hence need to call ahead. Several levels of camping. Screened shelters to primitive. Best rock climbing around here. Nice lake tho down right now and if you forget anything head to the store on site. If he doesn't have it Walmart not far :)

My parents encouraged my family and I to check out this park and we sure are glad we did. Our trip got cut short due to severe thunderstorms that were coming in and they refunded me my last nights fee in under 30 seconds which was very cool. Our favorite part was hiking in Penitentiary Hollow. It's nice to not... More

Stayed a couple nights here with 3 families and had a great time with kids/teens. Lots of things to do: hiking, bike trails, rappeling/rock climbing (must sign waiver and have appropriate gear), and can rent canoe/kayaks on the lake. We stayed in sites 32-34 and had no issues. The drought is apparent in that lake is low and campsites are... More

I grew up going to this park and remember it being awesome! Went this weekend and was extremely disappointed! We stayed at campsite (w/o electricity) #2 and first of all, the layout of the site was very strange. The fire ring was in a very weird area and the tent space was on the complete other side of the site,... More

This park was very large with beautiful wooded RV camp sites. Each site had fire ring and grill with picnic tables. Many sites were not level but with so many to pick from you shouldn't have a problem finding one that is. There are unpaved hiking trails available and a few Geocaches on site. Be sure to go to Penitentiary... More

We enjoyed our camp out stay with our Cub Scout pack. We stayed in the Plateau camping area (30 amp - water and electricity) which is one of the loops. Padsite 64 and 65 were right on the water and were fairly close to the showers/restrooms (which were clean and well maintained). The whole park was really clean and we... More

The campsites are extremely unattractive. The trees look like garbage and there is nothing where you sit back and say "wow, this is beautiful." I would recommend someone from DFW who wants to camp go east - much prettier. However, I recommend going for the day. There is an area where the kids can climb rocks and the environment is... More

We went camping with our children and our grand children several months ago at Mineral Wells State Park. Had a WONDERFUL time checking out the park and climbing the rocks, swimming, and just enjoying nature. We LOVED it so much we went again the 2nd weekend in June 2012. We had 10 of us there and it was GREAT again!... More

Been going to this park for years. Leave after work and arrive at the park late. Pay at self pay and check-in the next morning. No problems. Jan 2011, park police stops at camp site and advises of fire ban no problem, but I had seen other campfires in the area. His response , there was a big sign. Checked... More
