The room I stayed in smell like cigarettes. The owner told me more than once that my room was non-smoking. Wow! Could of fooled me. This place is great for a stop late at night to get off the road and leave early in the morning to get back on the road. Cold AC!

Merkel is just a few miles out of Abilene. We reserved a room here after discovering that all the rooms in Abilene were booked due to three colleges scheduling their graduation ceremonies on the same weekend. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful! The room was clean and we felt safe in the area. The rooms at Scottish Inn could... More

I thought I just finished the review,oh well, here it is again. I pulled in late at night attracted by reasonable rates and good reviews~ and everything lived up to it. The pleasant and conversant owners, Andy and Elizabeth work hard to ensure that your stay will be a pleasant one. Minutes from Abilene~ good deal.

We stopped at this place out of necessity. The roads were too scary for me and my daughter to pass. The owner or mgr. was so friendly, so helpful, so kind. It's old school, inexpensive accommodations. But, it fits the bill. What went above and beyond was the helpfulness and attention they paid to our stay experience. The restaurant was... More

The stay at this hotel was an unexpected one, but nevertheless very welcomed one. The people at this hotel are very friendly and run a good business. Don't expect a fancy hotel, but a family working class hotel. The rooms are cheap, and could use some renovation. However it being the only hotel in the area there is no reason... More

On New Year's Day 2015, we were forced off of I-20 by the big ice storm and were very grateful to find shelter in the Scottish Inn & Suites. The proprietors worked very hard to accommodate everyone and were extremely kind, friendly, hospitable, and delightful. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious with 2 Queen beds and a Queen fold-out... More

Based strictly on the personal touch, this motel is a 10. Andy and Elizabeth bent over backwards for all of us folks stranded due to the ice storm that went through this part of Texas over the new year 2015. Owners did not take advantage of the situation - room rates were reasonable. They have pet friendly rooms and room... More

I found myself stranded in an ice storm and made the decision to get off the road. I stayed from Tuesday through Saturday morning. The owners were very gracious. It soon became apparent that there were a number of us who made the decision to stop. I enjoyed the camaraderie among travelers and was treated to an impromptu classical guitar... More

My family and I were traveling over the New Year's Holiday when I-20 became unsafe to travel. We landed in Merkel, Texas at the Scottish Inn. The owner and his wife made accommodations for all of the stranded travelers. There were people from all over: California, Canada, Midland, El Paso, and Arizona. Each guest was treated with the utmost hospitality... More

We booked several rooms for weeks at a time and never had a problem. The rooms are very clean, the price is right and the owners couldn't be nicer people. I'd reccommend to anyone going through Merkel.
