Lovely place but the cook should learn some lessons and practice from a person who knows how to handle food. We ordered a couple of items that had a nice description on the menu, but we ate things that totally seemed to be spoiled by a bad chef. When we friendly asked about the failure, the waitress showed us an... more

A lovely small hotel that is better than it should be. The remote location would suggest that The Colonsay be dreary, or out-of-date, or provincial. That couldn't be further from the truth. The hotel is warm, contemporary and inviting. The food is fresh and shows real attention to putting the right mix of flavours and textures together. The rooms are... more

Outstanding in every way but especially the service - the staff couldn't do enough for us. On the expensive side of average but what would you expect to pay for 1st class service on a remote Hebridean Island?! more

The prices aree worth paying that little extra fro this wee gem of a hotel. The service was excellent the rooms were beautiful, clean and tidy and the communal areas were very relaxing. The food at breakfast was varied and of good quality, and the evening meals were very tasty, again with good quality ingredients. I would happily go back... more

I'd read a lot about The Colonsay and so had quite high expectations. The situation is wonderful, the staff are helpful but the hotel lacks personality and the food was very very disappointing. I am not sure I would go again to the hotel but I would go back to the island. more

I knew it was going to be a special island when dolphins swam alongside the ferry as we approached the island in the early evening sunshine. The weather had been grim until we left Oban and then the blue skies appeared and never left for our entire holiday. The hotel is a gem - unique, individual, relaxed and extremely comfy.... more

what a shame I had to leave this gorgeous Island due to a dental emergency, when I had hardly unpacked and relaxed into the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, in Pig's Paradise. Staff were very helpful sorting me out accommodation on the mainland again and off I went back on the next ferry, leaving husband and kids to... more

Spent 5 days in this delightful hotel on an equally delightful island. Food excellent, bar ditto: our room looked out on the Paps of Jura, and was all we ask for in such a place. Couple of tips: for the next 3 months a charming girl called Nicky, who works for the RSPB, is running walks around the island looking... more

The Colonsay is not what you might expect on a Hebridean island two and a half hours from mainland Scotland. Contemporary decor, relaxed eating and great rooms all combine to make this a great place to chill. We stayed in 'Ardskenish' a large room with great views of the harbour and the Isle of Jura. The bar serves island-brewed ales... more
