I agree with Dhmellor (see a previous review) this is an absolute gem. Kevin and the whole team, there, are very helpful, friendly and go out of their way to assist in any way. Our room "Pig's Paradise" was extremely comfortable, with a large bed into which we could lie as if in a snowdrift; luxuriously soft! An immaculate, large... more

The hotel was ok. Some of the staff were very freindly & helpful, the food was reasonably tasty although expensive. BUT, it was all too sterile, no locals in the bar, no characters, might as well gone self catering. more

Naively thought the very high tariff reflected the quality offered by the hotel, o’ so wrong! Firstly it was a trial of endurance just to get someone to answer the phone & take our reservation. The room was smallish but the shower room was tiny, literally the width of the shower base. The staff were very friendly & informal but... more

Spent a Saturday night at this lovely wee hotel. Staff were uniformly friendly and helpful. The food was amasing, the sea-food was some of the best I have enjoyed. The room was very tastefully decorated and a comfortable king-sized bed had a view over the sea to Jura. Minor gripes were the plumbing, every tap in the bedrooms were backed up... more

We stayed for a couple of nights in April 2006. We had been before, but it had changed hands recently and had been thoroughly refurbished, and the refurbishment was a huge improvement. The new owners have managed to make it quite cool and fashionable without losing the character of the old building, which is still the social hub of life... more

The Colonsay has apparently had a makeover. It is great and I thought the accommodation good quality (had the same room as the disatisfied person below). This is an island 15m from the mainland so a few omissions that you'd expect in a high end metropolitan hotel are more than made up for by character and friendliness. The bed was... more

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend staying in the hotel on Colonsay. The staff were friendly and very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The food was very good, and the whole experience was as relaxing and restorative as it gets. We stayed in the same room, called Balnahard, as the previous reviewer, but we found it... more

The “exceptional” room we booked was very ordinary - the room was small, the furniture was basic and there were no facilities like TV, radio or CD player. The bathroom decor was awful (brass taps and 1980’s styling) and the shower just produced a trickle of water. Also, the claim of a sea view was rather far-fetched as the hotel... more

Can highly recommend The Colonsay Hotel after a recent visit to the island. The atmosphere is informal without being overly familiar and the restaurant fare was first-class too.The room was excellent and there is also a resident's library(with a TV for those who can't do without one for a few days!).Run by a small friendly team who understand the true meaning... more
