Spent 5 days in this delightful hotel on an equally delightful island. Food excellent, bar ditto: our room looked out on the Paps of Jura, and was all we ask for in such a place. Couple of tips: for the next 3 months a charming girl called Nicky, who works for the RSPB, is running walks around the island looking... more

The Colonsay is not what you might expect on a Hebridean island two and a half hours from mainland Scotland. Contemporary decor, relaxed eating and great rooms all combine to make this a great place to chill. We stayed in 'Ardskenish' a large room with great views of the harbour and the Isle of Jura. The bar serves island-brewed ales... more

Colonsay is a delightful island - a world apart. It operates to very different rules - population 100; one shop; three ferries a week in winter, five in summer; lots of wonderful and accessible landscape. So it's a pleasant surprise that it has a hotel which provides mainland-standard accommodation, service and food. The public areas are very comfortable and stylish... more

We arrived from a late ferry and had to extract someone from the bar to show us to our room. The room was comfortable and clean although the en suite was tiny if adequate. The continental breakfast offered a poor selection and although the basic price is high you have to pay extra for a cooked breakfast. We found the... more

When someone tells you your boat isn't coming back, it sets a little panic button going! We didnt have a clue where we were going to stay if the hotel was full. (seen as its the only one on the island) Luckily after a quick sprint ahead of everyone else, I managed to get the last room, lucky for us....... more

Very friendly staff, welcoming and helpful. No sign of any owners which made it a bit impersonal. It is mean not to include a cooked breakfast with the price of the room as they are not cheap and it is not as if there is a huge choice of eateries nearby. The Continental was unappetizing as there were no cheeses... more

The Colonsay pulls off the neat trick of offering a contemporary and comfortable stay (I want to say hip..) in a remote and beautiful location. Its a very confident operation with attractively designed guest areas downstairs and comfy rooms upstairs. We were in Pigs paradise with our (almost) two year old in the second room. Yes they get cbeebies! The... more

had a brilliant experience here - this place so works in every way! The staff are genuinely friendly and obviously happy to be there. You feel so at home immediately. The food is sublime! Breakfast includes homemade yoghurts, homemade bead and jams and fruit compotes. the full breakfast is perfection itself. last but not least the beer is made on... more

I agree with Dhmellor (see a previous review) this is an absolute gem. Kevin and the whole team, there, are very helpful, friendly and go out of their way to assist in any way. Our room "Pig's Paradise" was extremely comfortable, with a large bed into which we could lie as if in a snowdrift; luxuriously soft! An immaculate, large... more

The hotel was ok. Some of the staff were very freindly & helpful, the food was reasonably tasty although expensive. BUT, it was all too sterile, no locals in the bar, no characters, might as well gone self catering. more
