Drive down a secluded road and arrive at Finca Santa Marta. This wonderful farm has restored barns and bungalows for guests. The architecture is very interesting in the ways they have retained the aspects of the original barns and yet provide very comfortable accommodations. The hostess was extremely efficient and kind and got us to our rooms quickly. The breakfast... More

Superb atmosphere, a really relaxing place to stay. The staff were very welcoming, adding a real personal touch to our stay. The evening meal (remember to order in advance) was splendid, prepared to order by the chef. It's a great place to take children with a large pool and the grounds of the Finca itself make for a very educational... More

Wonderful treatment from the on site manager Laura and when we were there her assistant Jenny made our two-night rest here wonderful in many ways. Although this Finca is in need of some TLC and maintenance one can sense the glory days of the past and the potential of the future. Owners are not present and this may explain some... More

This property was visited for four days as part of a birdwatching holiday. After seeing the online photographs i had high expectaions of this farm style accomodation ,but the photos seem to have been taken many years ago. My small bedroom had a bed consisting of a worn unpadded mattress ,the bathroom was in fact larger. My case had to... More

The hotel has fantastic rustic charm. Ideally located for walking and bird watching. Lovely village located 10 minutes walk away. Has a small bar/restuarant which is cheap and cheerful. All the rooms are clean and spacious with delightful touches.

The last time I stayed at Finca Santa Marta was eight years ago, but it has remained as good as the first time, if not better. The surrounding countryside and wildlife are beautiful and the warmth and comfort of the Finca are exceptional. I had a problem with my headlights, it was a Saturday morning but Lara got it all... We loved the accommodation and the facilities of this beautiful set of properties and garden. It had the feeling that we were staying at the home of friends. Laura, the manager, was a smiling, helpful presence, and we would have liked to spend longer there than we did. There was so much to see and do around the property itself,... More

My wife & I have visited La Finca many, many times as it is only 2,5 hrs from our home in Madrid. If you are lucky & Henri, the owner, is on site you will find him to be the best of hosts. The whole staff is always pleasant. We will miss Ines & her fine cooking, but I'm sure... More

We spend time on site enjoying the rustic charm, many lovely birds and flowers, walking around the grounds and watching the stars at night without the light pollution you find in many places. The rooms are attractively rustic and the staff are friendly and helpful. However the food is plain but adequate . We return regularly to this lovely place.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
FINCA SANTA MARTA a Country Inn in Extremadura (Spain) that will surprise you!!! For many years the Finca Santa Marta has been gaining fame in birdwatching and wildlife circles as an ideal base to see an enormous variety of birds and other wildlife of interest, whether immediately in the vicinity of the Finca itself, or on excursions to nearby spots. Tucked in sloping hillsides, only 8 minutes driving from medieval Trujillo (Extremadura) the two typical Extremadura 19 th century farmhouses of the Finca, were renovated in the 19 nineties and converted into a country inn with 13 rooms, but keeping alive, on an amateur level, some of its agricultural activity. Now, city folk and nature lovers enjoy the quiet walks beyond the spacious lawns and the swimming pool. Once scorned upon as backward region, Extremadura is now one of Europe's most admired park-like eco systems visited by scores of nature lovers: the deserted steppes hosting an astonishing birdlife (bustards, vultures, Spanish imperial eagles and other famous Extremadura species all show well). North of Trujillo and about 45 min. Driving from the Finca Santa Marta, the Monfrague Park, is a pristine nature reserve and one of the best birdwatching sites in Spain. Visitors can view an incredible amount of birds of prey, often circling around at eye-level. It is famed for its black vultures, with a wingspan of three meters, breeding mainly on cork-oaks, as well as for a large population of griffon and Egyptian vultures, peregrine falcons, eagle owls and black storks. Pairs of the unique Spanish Imperial eagles sway around the "Salto del gitano", a pinnacle above the Tagus, and favoured target of telescope carrying visitors ... more   less
