It is mid-July. The temperature during the past several days in Trujillo has averaged c. 40 degrees centigrade. In short, it is HOT. So a swimming pool wherever one is staying in Trujillo in July is an absolute necessity! However, the pool HERE, although not large is not only important, it is--how shall I put it? --simply MAGIC! It lies... More

We did as we were asked and called the hotel when we arrived in Trujillo. The owner then kindly came to meet us and we followed him up the very narrow and winding streets to the hotel. There are certainly a lot of narrow streets to access this hotel. We managed to park our car outside the hotel for our... More

I was in Trujillo to organise a watercolour painting workshop later on in October 2015, and so spent two nights at the end of my stay in the Casa de Orellana. Werner met me and could not have been more helpful, even to the point of driving me into town to find a special adaptor and to the bus station... More

Satnav got us to within 10m of the front door but without a sign we had to call - no problem. Warm welcome, we were shown a choice of rooms and chose the one on the ground floor by the pool. The rooms and decor are old fashioned obviously but work very well. The pool was an oasis although the... More

First a few "warnings" if you want a modern box or are at all handicapped this isn't set up for you. Not only the hotel itself but getting there is a bit challenging up tight streets and sharp hills and the parking isn't by the door. Secondly they suggest you phone. They mean you must phone to be sure someone... More

From the minute we arrived to our departure we were treated like honoured guests. Werner made sure we wanted for nothing and led us upstairs through wonderfully decorated rooms to our ensuite room, complete with balcony overlooking the very private and peaceful garden. The palatial décor in our room was echoed throughout the whole house, once the home of Francisco... More

This is an asolutely astonishing hotel. It was the home of Orellana the explorer who "discovered" the Amazon in the 1400s. It has just 4 double rooms so it is like staying in someone's home and indeed you are told to treat it as such when you arrive, having first been guided in through the very narrow streets by Jose.... The advice from the owners when I booked was to keep driving uphill in old Trujillo and call them if I needed help the hotel. In fact, typing the address into the sat nav did the trick. The entrance difficult to find - but it's one door up from the Hotel Chavas. Once Jose took us through the ancient front... More

WE visited this lovely small inn/hotel recently, enjoying two beautifully decorated rooms in the former home of Orellana (the discoverer of the Amazon). The hotel has exquisitely decorated public rooms, including frescoes of the family tree of the Orellana family. Both of our rooms were beautifully decorated in a charming style; with comfortable modern baths. The private garden and pool... More
