Casa Rural El Recuerdo: A delightful place situated on the edge of a quiet village in the heart of rural Extremadura, although within easy driving distance of towns such as Trujillo and Caceres. The excellent hosts, Martin and Claudia together with their son Patrick, make you feel very much at home in this pleasant B & B, nicely converted from... More

Good birdwatching, great countryside and a relaxing week with great hosts was our ask. We searched for it and found it staying with Martin, Claudia and Patrick. Although we investigated where to go each day before we went Martin still gave us some good tips on when the best time of the day would be to go to certain areas... More

Wake up to sheep bells and birdsong. Sleep in comfortable beds looking out at a star filled sky, no light pollution here! In Martins absence Claudia and Patrick were perfect hosts. Another wonderful stopover.

This Casa Rural is perfect for exploring nature in the Extremadura. This wine-making "lagar" has been turned into a lovely and comfortable B & B. Birding is Martin's specialty but his interests and knowledge are much broader. For our one day of birding, he was the perfect guide. Breakfasts and dinners were very good. We are very grateful that Claudia... More

We had a lovely stay at this beautiful old farmhouse. Martin and Claudia made us very welcome and we really benefited from Martin's birding knowledge of the local area. He leads trips out, helping you find what you want to see. There's a good selection of birding books and a record of recent sightings. Even though the weather was cold... More

We only stayed here one night but it is a place that will stay in our memory. It is a lovely old house, in a quiet country location, run by a husband and wife. It has a lovely family feel to it, we sat outside in the sun playing ball with the dog, I felt I was back home. Martin... More

Wonderfully peaceful situation. Large airy well equipped room with pleasant view from window. Comfortable lounge with a wide range of books on the area. Meals very satisfactory. We visited Trujillo, Cacares and Monfrague with no difficulty using the hostal as a 3 night base.

My husband is a birdwatcher and we built our entire holiday itinerary around availability at El Recuerdo. We made a confirmed booking in March and immediately sent the requested deposit, which was acknowledged. We were made aware that we would have to move rooms after one day, but we accepted that. About two hours after our late afternoon arrival, the... More

Our second visit was to see particular birds. With the benefit of Martin's advice we saw everything we hoped to. The rooms are comfortable, the meals tasty, Martin and Claudia excellent hosts and the prices very reasonable .

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our house is a traditional old house, typical in Extremadura. We are situated at the edge of the little village, Pago de San Clemente, close to the small church and against the gentle hills Sierra de los Lagares, just ten minutes by car from the beautiful medieval town of Trujillo. The house, which is nearly 200 years old, has been carefully restored to maintain its construction in stone and vaulted ground-floor ceilings. Most of the rooms have original tiled floors. We have decorated the house with beautiful old furniture and many attractive features. You will feel at home, relaxing in the sitting room with its library and bird prints; having a meal in the dining room, where once wine was made; or resting in the individually decorated en-suite bedrooms, each with the name of local trees: Olivo, Higuera, Madroño, Encina, Almendro and Membrillo. All bedrooms have heating and air-conditioning. ... more   less
