Realistically, this is a 3-3.5 star property, but I have given it the benefit of the doubt since it is clearly the best hotel in Hidalgo County (McAllen/Edinburg), Cameron County (Brownsville and Harlingen), Starr County (Rio Grande City) and the remaining counties of the Rio Grande Valley. The hotel is "historic" which has its advantages (including balconies on the interior,... More

When I was booking my trip to McAllen, Texas last week, I was surprised to see a Renaissance available there. Being a gold member with Marriott, I thought why not give it a try? The Pro's: Beautiful building from the exterior and awesome caring staff. The cons everything else, literally... Where to start?? I got there late (about 11:30) and... More

Nicely appointed rooms and beautiful courtyard view made for the perfect stay to experience a taste of Old McAllen. Stay for the ambience! Room was very clean and comfortable and hotel is equipped with all the standard amenities for the Renaissance brand.

Casa de Palmas feels more like being at home than a hotel. The staff remember you and treat you like family. It's a beautiful, clean hotel. The breakfast is always fresh and the evening hospitality is just that, great conversations with other guests with a drink and real food as a snack, not just goldfish and pretzels, very nice. Thanks!

A McAllen Must Stay Hotel!!! Even Better This Year!!! If you are staying in McAllen, this is a must stay place. The Renaissance is a historic hotel. Today it offers ALL the conveniences of a modern hotel in a setting built for well-healed railroad travelers. They would depart the train and walk a steps to The Renaissance. It is a... More

got to the hotel and got the room on 2nd floor with musty smell, requested for a change and was given another room on third floor which was no better. The girl at the registration desk told me as it is natural due to the age of the building. The view from the room was third floor parking deck and... More

My first impression was positive due to the lovely tropical outdoor areas. The lobby was modern and colorful, but two different music systems were playing simultaneously-one in the bar area and one at the front desk. Both were loud and conflicting so not very pleasant. The stairwells were clean but smelled strongly of years of disinfectant-not sure what to do... More

The place was built in 1916 or something. It is real classy. We had a cab driver tell us that he was working as a bus boy here when Kennedy was shot. We ate some very nice breakfasts with a (thanks goodness as I am impatient) great waitress in the restaurant and had an excellent room service dinner. The staff... More

I stayed in this hotel only one night in a business travel. It is comfortable, very clean, with great service attitude of all the staff. Bed and the rest of the room is very cozy. It is very near from the airport also.
