You either get it or you don't. Best bikes in Marfa. Forget ear plugs, turn on air conditioner to block out trains. Great access to DQ. Great room and a great Marfa weekend. Thanks to the whole staff, had a blast. Will come back sometime when I am in the neighborhood.

Thunderbird Hotel: When we visited Marfa we were fortunate enough to stay at the Thunderbird Hotel. The Thunderbird is a minimalist hotel with all the essentials: typewriter, record player, Polaroids, and Malin + Goetz toiletries. As you can see from my pictures, the rooms are simple yet chic. Hotel Property Lobby Area: From the moment I walked into the lobby... More

The staff was friendly and helpful. The town is boring. Nothing is open sunday thru wednesday. If you are, or think you are a "artist" you might enjoy Marfa. Otherwise you should drive to Mexico. Much more interesting. As for the hotel it is overpriced. They charge $190. for a $100. room on sunday. The weekday rates are almost as... More

My wife and I stayed here from Monday to Wednesday. What I liked were the nice linens and soaps and shower, as mentioned by other guest reviews. What I didn't like we're the paper thin walls, bare lightbulbs in the bathroom, the burnt out vanity lights, NO TVs (!?), a stupid offer to rent a hipster typewriter for $10 (with... More

If you want mod-cons, luxury and a quiet night, the Marfa may not be you. But given the freight trains run through Marfa at all hours, the blare of the horn is either an atmospheric touch on this already wonderfully otherworldly town or a noisy nuisance that will spoil your sleep. That said, the bigger likely cause of that at... More

I was expecting a lot from this hotel and it delivered little. The sight of ear plugs on entering our room was a worry and it became apparent early why these are supplied. The hotel sits right next to the rail tracks. We're talking freight trains here. Sometimes over a mile long all through the night. We had to request... More

This property has changed management since my last visit. This visit was in February, 2015, in conjunction with the Valentine's In Valentine festival. Since my last visit, the overall quality of the experience has significantly declined. First, they have turned their courtyard from a parking area to a garden, forcing guests to park on the muddy, unpaved side street adjacent... More

I stayed at the Thunderbird Hotel for 3 nights while I was visiting Marfa for a work trip. Myself and all my coworkers stayed at the hotel and I think we were all quite pleased with the accommodations, the charmingly minimalist ambiance and especially the service. My favorite part was actually walking into my room for the first time...the SMELL... More

This seemed to be more of a motel than hotel. The office and a small lounge area are located across the street . The rooms were clean and with a comfortable bed but we found them lacking in some areas and for this we considered it over priced (we paid $165-$185/night). We arrived and there were no toiletries- not even... More

We loved staying at Thunderbird! The outdoor area with pool is amazing. Minimalistic, modern with a 60's TX vibe. Good looking hotel and rooms. Clean, comfortable and spacious. Bring earplugs tho, the freight train freaked us out the first night, haha! And the walls between the rooms are pretty thin, but nothing too bad. You can rent bikes here and... More
