Yes this is empty, bare bones ,no carpet . Exactly what I like . Yes it has a train behind hotel that roars thru early and late . I like that too. It's Marfa ! This hotel has the best pool in town . Minimal clean rooms great sheets! A couple of changes that are not on website yet ..... More

I've been wanting to stay at the Thunderbird since it opened! I finally got a chance to take the long trip to Marfa only to find no way to make a reservation online or by phone! Or by Trip Advisor app. My voice & email messages were not returned and the office was closed when I arrived. Is it a... More

My partner and I paid $180 for a room at the Thunderbird--tax included. What we got for that was the smallest hotel room we have ever been in. No complimentary bottled water--not even one-- and if we wanted ice, we had to go to the store next door and buy it. There was no television or DVD player. There were... More

Nearing the end of a camping bicycle tour of the Big Bend area, I was looking for a comfy bed and shower and Thunderbird did not disappoint. Reminiscent of Palms Springs or upscale Austin, the owners have retrofitted an old motel and made it oh-so-cool again. Sure, there are cheaper options in Marfa, but this was worth it to me.... More

The Thunderbird Hotel does an excellent job of creating a very specific atmosphere for visitors. The decor is streamlined and attractive, furnishings are minimal, and the whole site (both sides of the street) has a calming vibe. You won't find the usual amenities like cable TV and mini-bars, but if you're at the Thunderbird, you probably weren't looking for those,... More

First of all, it was a little tricky to find. The hotel office is across the street and at first glance, you think THAT is your hotel??? The rooms are actually across the street around a courtyard and old pool. If this room had been $100 I would have been happy. Its a very old motor hotel that has cleverly... More

You either get it or you don't. Best bikes in Marfa. Forget ear plugs, turn on air conditioner to block out trains. Great access to DQ. Great room and a great Marfa weekend. Thanks to the whole staff, had a blast. Will come back sometime when I am in the neighborhood.

Thunderbird Hotel: When we visited Marfa we were fortunate enough to stay at the Thunderbird Hotel. The Thunderbird is a minimalist hotel with all the essentials: typewriter, record player, Polaroids, and Malin + Goetz toiletries. As you can see from my pictures, the rooms are simple yet chic. Hotel Property Lobby Area: From the moment I walked into the lobby... More

The staff was friendly and helpful. The town is boring. Nothing is open sunday thru wednesday. If you are, or think you are a "artist" you might enjoy Marfa. Otherwise you should drive to Mexico. Much more interesting. As for the hotel it is overpriced. They charge $190. for a $100. room on sunday. The weekday rates are almost as... More

My wife and I stayed here from Monday to Wednesday. What I liked were the nice linens and soaps and shower, as mentioned by other guest reviews. What I didn't like we're the paper thin walls, bare lightbulbs in the bathroom, the burnt out vanity lights, NO TVs (!?), a stupid offer to rent a hipster typewriter for $10 (with... More
