My wife and I stayed here from Monday to Wednesday. What I liked were the nice linens and soaps and shower, as mentioned by other guest reviews. What I didn't like we're the paper thin walls, bare lightbulbs in the bathroom, the burnt out vanity lights, NO TVs (!?), a stupid offer to rent a hipster typewriter for $10 (with... More

If you want mod-cons, luxury and a quiet night, the Marfa may not be you. But given the freight trains run through Marfa at all hours, the blare of the horn is either an atmospheric touch on this already wonderfully otherworldly town or a noisy nuisance that will spoil your sleep. That said, the bigger likely cause of that at... More

I was expecting a lot from this hotel and it delivered little. The sight of ear plugs on entering our room was a worry and it became apparent early why these are supplied. The hotel sits right next to the rail tracks. We're talking freight trains here. Sometimes over a mile long all through the night. We had to request... More

This property has changed management since my last visit. This visit was in February, 2015, in conjunction with the Valentine's In Valentine festival. Since my last visit, the overall quality of the experience has significantly declined. First, they have turned their courtyard from a parking area to a garden, forcing guests to park on the muddy, unpaved side street adjacent... More

I stayed at the Thunderbird Hotel for 3 nights while I was visiting Marfa for a work trip. Myself and all my coworkers stayed at the hotel and I think we were all quite pleased with the accommodations, the charmingly minimalist ambiance and especially the service. My favorite part was actually walking into my room for the first time...the SMELL... More

This seemed to be more of a motel than hotel. The office and a small lounge area are located across the street . The rooms were clean and with a comfortable bed but we found them lacking in some areas and for this we considered it over priced (we paid $165-$185/night). We arrived and there were no toiletries- not even... More

We loved staying at Thunderbird! The outdoor area with pool is amazing. Minimalistic, modern with a 60's TX vibe. Good looking hotel and rooms. Clean, comfortable and spacious. Bring earplugs tho, the freight train freaked us out the first night, haha! And the walls between the rooms are pretty thin, but nothing too bad. You can rent bikes here and... More

Have stayed here 3x; with few lodging options in Marfa, or at a good value, the Thunderbird *Motel* might get a better review than I normally would provide. Pluses - decor, simplicity, wi-fi (glad mine worked more than others' experiences), clean (no cockroaches like some others). Minuses - price (even w/ renovations and remoteness worth $60-80 / night...not $150+), the... More

I was surprised at the limited options for hotels in Marfa, having been told by several people to visit this town i was expecting something more. The Thunderbird Hotel looks like an old Motel with a Marfa styled remodeling. The room we had was a cute studio on the second floor, minimal furniture and some strange designer choices like the... Good: Thunderbird Hotel is trying to zone in on the whole Marfa, TX experience and appeal by applying a post-modern/minimalist theme to a motel that was built circa 50's/60's . It has a cool vibe about it. The rooms are in minamalist style. You can rent bikes, record players, and buy some of their organic soaps/lotions that they use in... More
