The hotel is nice. We stayed in a historic room (bathroom down the short hall), but were very comfortable. The restaurant, however, was impersonal, overpriced, and not that good. The bar is good, but they bragged on their margaritas. Even though they were pricey, we ordered a top shelf margarita. It tasted like it came from a mix. It was... more

The Gage is unique in many ways for the area. It is an oasis in the desert, with beautiful landscaping and a wonderful garden for strolllng, putting golf balls, etc. The building is a TX historical landmark, and it has character galore. The menu in the restaurant is gourmet, and considering how difficult it is to get fresh ingredients out... more

I was on a 3000 mile motorcycle trip through West Texas including Big Bend. After riding around BB I headed to the Gage for the night. Walking into the place was like stepping back in time. You would expect to see cowboys in the parlor trading cattle. My room was a little small but comfortable. The bed was firm and... more

On our way out of the Big Bend we decided to skip our usual race back to east Texas and spend a night at the Gage in the small community of Marathon, north of the Big Bend National Park entrance. It was a great choice and exceeded our expectations for accomodations, food and service. This place is the real deal.... more

This property was recommended to us by a friend as we were planning to spend 5 days exploring Big Bend Park. Their online booking process was average - it did not allow for an entry to specify the guests were bringing pets (which they allow at $10/pet/night). We stayed in the “hotel”, queen room w/private bath, in order to save... more

I have been going to the Gage Hotel for the past 2 - 3 years, and was recently married there. We stayed for our wedding, and added on an additional week for wedding prep and R&R. During this most recent trip, we ate at the restaurant 3 times, and Chef Paul prepared 3 additional meals for all of our wedding... more

The hotel room was just as advertised. It was okay. The restaurant was another thing. Food was cold and the service was colder. My waiter was "Pancho, the unseen!" When I needed something, I got the guy at the register to get it for me. My dissatisfaction was so apparent, they gave me 10% off the check. I left a... more

My wife and I stayed at The Gage for one night on our way to Big Bend. I booked a room in the historic building. The room was cozy and somewhat small, which was fine for this short of a stay. At some point in the evening I noticed that no air was coming from the AC vent. When I... more

I had fun at the Gage. We stayed in the original old hotel, not the newer addition to the west. Most rooms are small just like you would expect at most old hotels. The wooden floors creak when you walked on them. There are cracks in the plaster walls. You can open the window and let the cool desert night... more

Radically over-priced as they fancy themselves as the only game in town. I'll say this much for the hotel: I've never witnessed a murder until I stayed at the Gage. Don't be fooled, there is still an outlaw element to South-West Texas. more
