I really like this place. It is remote, pricey and the gateway to Big Bend. That said it is worth every penny to get away, unplug and relax in the historic hotel. There is now a pool (wasn't here when we last visited in late 2004), great areas for sitting and relaxing around the grounds, from courtyard to firepit to... More

The Gage is an old western-themed hotel, complete with rifles and canteens on the walls and cow-skins on the floor. Very interesting and comfortable hotel in Marathon, which is a gateway town to Big Bend National Park. They also have a park-like garden across the rr tracks, which is a cool and inviting place to walk or do some yoga... More

We've stayed at the Gage twice in recent years - most recently this past month on a weekend motorcycle trip through Big Bend and The Davis Mountains. We've stayed in the main building as well as the Captain Shepherd House a block away. The Gage is a beautiful old historic property, very well maintained with a great staff and terrific... More

I wish I were back there already! This is a beautifully landscaped property reminiscent of a Scottsdale resort. We stayed in Los Portales. The room was comfortable, the shower was beautiful, and there were many thoughtful elements to the room, including a picture window to a mini-courtyard. The room could have used more light, and also I wish there was... More

We really heard about the Gage more for the restaurant than the rooms. Yes the restaurant is quite excellent with a reasonable wine list. We both had really good rib eyes and a nice cab. It is dinner only. 1/2 block east is a funky but good place for breakfast. Our room was on the courtyard which is picturesque. Great... More

I stayed in the older 2-story section. The room was very nice--clean, well-maintained, nicely decorated. It was a bit noisy, just part of being an older property. It was fairly expensive for what I got.

We frequent the 12 gage restaurant often. We sometimes also stay in the hotel. We have stayed in the courtyard, old hotel, and now the carriage house. All unique. My favorite so far is the carriage house. The bed was very comfortable, large. It was nicely decorated with impressive furnishings. The fireplace, even though I couldn't make an impressive fire... Beautiful hotel room beautiful and staff so helpful. After a long day at Big Ben National Park it's nice to have a hotel and restaurant close. This ace has just been totally remodeled in last couple of years and is so impressive. Not cheap but worth the price to be comfortable.

Spent two nights in the Gage Hotel as our base for a spring tour of Big Bend National Park. The Gage is a charming mix of rustic Mexican and Western architecture with some real history mixed in. The Las Portales rooms are excellent and you feel like you've stepped back 100 years all while sleeping in a luxurious king bed... More

Nice grounds ,attractive décor, and nice large shower. Room was dark and it was difficult to read, (No TV), very noisy neighbors, plus neighbors on one side were smoking on the porch all the time. Light breakfast in lobby consisted of 3 mini muffins, some small red delicious apples (a variety that has been over hybridized so tastes crappy). Restaurant... More
