Hotel staff were very kind and accomodating. The building was filled with beautiful period pieces and the Dining Room was very beautiful. The room was smaller than I am accostom to but large for the typical historic hotel. Furnishings were very nice and felt very period appropriate. I was a bit suprised that the room was cooled with a window... More

The owners need to invest some cash and TLC into this hotel. It is pretty sad, what this formerly stately hotel has come to. The building itself has charm and character, not to mention its historical significance and great locale in a darling town. But the way the hotel is decorated and being maintained is seriously lacking. We had 2... More

Our room was huge and nicely decorated. The window unit a/c unit left the room only mildly comfortable - can't imagine how hot the room gets in full summer heat. Walking distance to all attractions. Great location and history.

The Excelsior House has a great location on Austin St. in the historic district of Jefferson. The rooms are clean with a great courtyard to boot. Breakfast was very nice too however in Jefferson there's lots of choices where to stay.

My daughter chose this fine historical hotel for her wedding venue. We stayed two nights in room 103 and she stayed two in #104. Our room had a bathroom with a huge claw foot tub that had a hose for showering. Hubby said it was awesome, I am mobility impaired, and was afraid to use it with no hand rails,... More

Lots of antiques..housekeeping staff and the sweet ladies who served our "breakfast" were superb but the "hotel" it'self leaves a lot to be desired. Really would have been benifical to have a pamphlet or directory for restaurants and sightseeing. Lots of maintenance to plumbing needed

Thank you so much for your honest input. This historic property reminds us everyday that it has been serving East Texas travelers for the past century and a half. Currently we are engaged in a number of very extensive property and room restoration projects. Yes, some are long overdue but we are fully committed to upgrading everything that we can... More

My wife and I and another couple spent several days at the Excelsior House in old Jefferson Texas. Our friends told us it was a great place to visit, but you just have to go there to really understand what they are saying. The hotel was fabulous! Not in the way of a brand new hotel/casino or one of the... More

My girl friends and I went to Jefferson for some ghost hunting fun ; ) We stayed in the Excelsior house and despite negative reviews about the cleanliness of the hotel it was surprisingly VERY clean... We took a haunted train ride and listen to ghost stories at the Historic Jefferson Railway, which I highly recommend! It was seriously the... More

Thank you staying with us. We are the oldest hotel in continuous operation in the entire State of Texas and over the past 160 years throughout that time so many of the people who have stayed here have "come and gone" that anything is possible in terms of "special visitations". We like to emphasize the history of Jefferson but a... More

The Excelsior House is a lovely hotel in the center of Jefferson, TX. The furnishings, chandeliers, and silver service in the dining room are exquisite and in good condition. There are many interesting artifacts in the lobby and the patio and courtyard are perfect for sharing time with friends or relaxing. There were eight in our group and our four... More

My name is Karl. I am the Hotel Manager and I thank you for your candid and thorough critique. I'm sorry that there was a misunderstanding in my response to reconciling the "slight ratteling" noise in the overhead light in your room. I certainly did not want to give you the impression that I was not concerned. This grand old... More
