The Excelsior House has a great location on Austin St. in the historic district of Jefferson. The rooms are clean with a great courtyard to boot. Breakfast was very nice too however in Jefferson there's lots of choices where to stay.

My daughter chose this fine historical hotel for her wedding venue. We stayed two nights in room 103 and she stayed two in #104. Our room had a bathroom with a huge claw foot tub that had a hose for showering. Hubby said it was awesome, I am mobility impaired, and was afraid to use it with no hand rails,... More

Lots of antiques..housekeeping staff and the sweet ladies who served our "breakfast" were superb but the "hotel" it'self leaves a lot to be desired. Really would have been benifical to have a pamphlet or directory for restaurants and sightseeing. Lots of maintenance to plumbing needed

Thank you so much for your honest input. This historic property reminds us everyday that it has been serving East Texas travelers for the past century and a half. Currently we are engaged in a number of very extensive property and room restoration projects. Yes, some are long overdue but we are fully committed to upgrading everything that we can... More

My wife and I and another couple spent several days at the Excelsior House in old Jefferson Texas. Our friends told us it was a great place to visit, but you just have to go there to really understand what they are saying. The hotel was fabulous! Not in the way of a brand new hotel/casino or one of the... More

My girl friends and I went to Jefferson for some ghost hunting fun ; ) We stayed in the Excelsior house and despite negative reviews about the cleanliness of the hotel it was surprisingly VERY clean... We took a haunted train ride and listen to ghost stories at the Historic Jefferson Railway, which I highly recommend! It was seriously the... More

Thank you staying with us. We are the oldest hotel in continuous operation in the entire State of Texas and over the past 160 years throughout that time so many of the people who have stayed here have "come and gone" that anything is possible in terms of "special visitations". We like to emphasize the history of Jefferson but a... More

The Excelsior House is a lovely hotel in the center of Jefferson, TX. The furnishings, chandeliers, and silver service in the dining room are exquisite and in good condition. There are many interesting artifacts in the lobby and the patio and courtyard are perfect for sharing time with friends or relaxing. There were eight in our group and our four... More

My name is Karl. I am the Hotel Manager and I thank you for your candid and thorough critique. I'm sorry that there was a misunderstanding in my response to reconciling the "slight ratteling" noise in the overhead light in your room. I certainly did not want to give you the impression that I was not concerned. This grand old... More

First, we took advantage of the midweek special and since it was Spring break, the local ghostwalk was going all week. Double bonus for some Jefferson history. We stayed in the Jay Gould room (#215) . I first want to say, it appears they are working on more updates. Yes we requested this room for the history. However, one of... More

This hotel is located in the heart of Jefferson TX. The rooms are nice and the rumor is Steven Speilburg stayed here. The hotel is supposed to be haunted but my husband and I witnessed nothing but enjoyed the nice furnishings and comfort it gave us. Stop by sometime the hotel does have a lot of history.

We remember your visit with us. Thank you so much for choosing to stay at The Excelsior. I often remark to guests that a visit to Jefferson, Texas is a visit to a different place and time. We enjoy telling all of the "stories" of Jefferson and are so happy that you enjoyed yourself. Thank You. More

Town is absolutely a great place for Christmas and Mardi Gras. We met Carl, manager of the Excelsior House. What a great guy that takes pride in his work and hotel. Another hit was Eileen in housekeeping. Very nice, welcoming, and fun person. Overall looking forward to staying here ... maybe the Playhouse next year. Scot H. McKinney TX
