We came here based on reviews and I don't k ow what these people were thinking. The place reeked of urine. The beds are not queen. They are full size at best. We got moved to another room and the air conditioner leaked all over the bed and soaked it. The tub was peeling and the deadbolt on the door... More

I had been warned by reviews on Trip Advisor and went prepared for the worst. So, it was not as bad as I had anticipated. Went to bird with a friend world class birder who had been there before. He said the place had improved because a mini refrigerator had now been added to the room!!! So what were the... More

We stayed 3 nights at the Gulfway on a recent birding expedition to High Island. Our room was clean, if quite basic, although the bathroom was a bit shabby. Walls are paper-thin, so we could hear conversations on both sides quite clearly. Meals at the restaurant were pretty tasteless, both dinner (only available for motel guests on certain evenings) and... More

I understand that being the only motel allow you some leeway but I feel this was place is inadequate. It looks like its straight out of the1950s - and this is OK and fun but not when you're paying $90 + and the cold tap didn't turn and the room had no microwave, no coffee making and the amenities were... High Island is noted internationally as a bird watcher's paradise and this hotel is within easy walking distance of several sanctuaries. Although an old style motel, the owners appear to be making renovations and the necessary upkeep. The prices are very reasonable we will definitely add it to our list of places to stay again. The café is being renovated... More

I have stayed here numerous times in recent years and have some mixed emotions about the place. It isn't fancy and the mosquitos will carry you away (at night) during certain times of the year, but the owners are friendly and the prices are decent. Breakfast is good in the local café.

We stayed here in August 2014 with our three boys. The people were great ! Becky, the owner, and her husband were very personable, down to earth, and accommodating. Hey anybody who gives me free french fries is okay in my book...lol The food in the diner is great ! The breakfast is wonderful. I was not expecting there to... More

We stayed in March 2014. The room was clean and looked recently repainted. The front desk people were very helpful, and the hotel was very quiet. I will stay here again on our next trip. They even mailed clothing back to me that I forgot to pack, most hotels would not have done that.

It isn't the Ritz but for advid bird photographers and birders, you couldn't be in a better place. We were welcomed by Silver Birder, Laura, who immediately keyed us into the best places to photograph nearby and down the road a piece. Our room was sparse but very clean. The owners and other workers were extremely friendly and the food... More

We stayed there to be close to birding at the Boy Scout Woods and Smith Oak Woods. First the carpet was very dirty. We found a polo shirt that had been left hanging up in the bathroom. Then we found an ashtray on the counter, we reserved a non-smoking room. The bath tub was very old didn't look very good,... More
