We stayed at the Austin Street Retreat for a four day New Year's Eve & New Year get away. The cabin we selected was Maria. It was lovely. The home is an authentic cabin built in 1860's. It has been restored and updated. It has 2 Bedrooms with queen beds, one long room has a kitchenette & seating area for... More

We had a fun time meeting y'all. Loved the four legged members of the family. Come back to see us! More

We stayed in Annie's for two nights. It is spacious, has a shower and Jacuzzi tub in a large (formerly patio?) separate bathroom. There are steps down to the bathroom, so must be careful in the dark! Has a microwave and mini fridge kitchenette, which allowed us to eat breakfast in the room. Very pet friendly, with lots of grass... More

Thanks for staying with us in Annie's. We love guests and their dogs and also accept them in our 2 bedroom suite, Maria's. Hope to see you again! More

Found this jewel, Eli's Cabin, on an internet search. It is an authentic home built in 1863. It has been lovingly restored by the owners. The staff from the rental agency, Gastehaus Schmidt, are very interested in their clientele having a pleasant experience. We would gladly return to rent Kristen except for one draw back, there is no shower.

Thank you... We like that word "beginnings". Hope to see you again. Fredericksburg is beautiful in all seasons. Summer hikes, Fall festivals, Winter by the fireplace and Spring wildflowers. More

So I booked the Kristen for a couple of nights. We were looking forward to sitting out in the courtyard but the hammock is covered in mold and the fountain is green from the algae growing for what looks like years. Inside the cottage, there is mold growing on the walls in the bathroom and the place smells as well.... More

We regret the lost opportunity to correct any problem and make it easy to do so. We have staff on the property every day and a 24/7 management phone contact. In spite of the fact that no mention of problems were made at checkout, everything in Kristin's suite was inspected and met our superlative standards. Fortunately we had just had... More

I surprised my wife on valentines day with a stay at Kristin's. She was amazed with the beauty of the place, she loves antiques and the whole town is filled with them. We stood out like a sore thumb being in our 20's and having colored hair. We stayed only one night but wish we could have stayed longer. The... More

Stayed in Eli's place just after Christmas on our way to San Antonio. The only drawback is no stand up shower but the whirlpool tub with hand held wand was close enough. Located just off the main stretch of town this was perfect for a good night of sleep. The only problem is the wife so liked the exposed beams... More

We found Annie's House at the Austin Street Retreat by accident, we arrived in Fredericksburg, TX without reservations, but I had a photo from a magazine which mentioned some Gastehaus service, which turned out to be how you book these rooms. This service handles B&B's, but the Austin Street Retreat is only B, not B&B, no breakfast. However, they have... More

My husband and I travel here every year for our anniversary. We love the privacy each cottage offers, as well as the beautiful accommodations. We have recommended this property to many friends and will continue to do so.

My husband and I stayed in the El Jefe Suite and loved the layout. Gorgeous Fireplace, private sitting area outside with relaxing waterfall, the bed was nice, and we both enjoyed the tub. The only 2 things that would have made it perfect would be a standup shower (I am 7 months pregnant and it is hard to get in/out... More

We stayed in El Jefe on a Friday night (Yes! One Night Reservations Are Accepted!), and couldn't have been happier with this Guesthouse. The ground floor consists of a walled and gated patio (table and 2 chairs and corner fountain) which leads to the front door. Inside is a large room with king sized bed, antique desk, small table and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Austin Street Retreat continues to be one of the most frequently photographed homes in Fredericksburg. Its fachwerk log cabin and limestone walls manifest the pioneer building techniques that make the pre-Victorian architecture of Fredericksburg so enduring and pleasing. With an eye for premium quality including fine linens, superior quality whirlpools and elegant appointments, the Retreat has grown to five suites each with a private terrace. The yard is beautifully kept and includes many perennials from the LBJ Ranch. Located one block off Main Street in Fredericksburg’s National Historic District, this is a premier property. The immigrant heritage and a European sense of style are a natural combination which provide a truly personal “Retreat” in the Hill Country. Luxury, grace, privacy. ... more   less
