We've been staying at the Royal Mail for many years now - I suppose that says something in itself. Consistently achieved high standards for food, service and accommodation make it a must-visit destination in the Southern Grampians. But do visit the Grampians, too - you won't be disappointed. We recommend choosing a Deluxe Mountainview Room 'down the back', rooms 13-21(?)... More

We stayed in one of the Mount Sturgeon cottages on our two night stay in Dunkeld. These are a few minutes drive down the road from the main restaurant/hotel. What a beautiful little cottage! Lovely bluestone walls, wooden fixtures, clever bathroom. It was extremely cosy and comfortable with lots of sources of heat for the cool evening. There was enough... More

We stayed for a long winter weekend in one of the one bedroom bluestone cottages in the Royal Mail Hotel's Mt Sturgeon Station. This is an easy five minute drive from the main hotel complex. The cottage was lovely with a fireplace and sofas. Very peaceful without televisions, telephones or wifi. Extremely quiet and dark at night. Even though there... More

We had the 5 course degustation without the wine addition. Food $115 pp, wine addition is $90 pp. the food was very nice & staff delightful. Probably not worth the hefty price tag. We stayed in the stone cottages, they are cute, somewhat spartan, bit dark, no mobile coverage in the cottages, no TV, no phone that we could see.... More

Dear fez59 We do get a lot of feedback about the 5 course being exceptional value for money as by the time you have snacks, an amuse and a pre-dessert you end up with 8 courses. However we recognize that we did not live up to your expectations in this instance and this armours us in our strive for perfection.... More

We booked this well in advance and chose to upgrade to the 8 course dinner. The room was well appointed and bathroom lovely with beautiful toiletries. There are plenty of walking tracks around the hotel for an afternoon stroll and book in for the kitchen garden tour. Our dinner was fantastic and the staff knew every detail backwards. The breakfast... More

A fabulous overnight stay. Very helpful staff very good accommodation we stayed in the rooms close to reception. Underfloor heating in the bathroom was great. Strongly recommend dining in their restaurant. For us it was a special treat and well worth it.

We booked to stay at the hotel to try the restaurant, that was our first mistake. We arrived and booked into the hotel and were sent across the road to our room. To be honest very over priced rooms, basic and more expensive than staying in s 5 star hotel in Melbourne, really not worth the money. We went into the... More

Dear Phil B, Despite knowing of you in the industry, professionally I will address your concerns publicly, as you have chosen to do so. Your claim that food was eaten off plates by staff is absurd. It is patently and maliciously untrue. It is true however that our chefs taste food as it is being prepared. This is common and... More

The setting is charming with great views of the Grampians which is a pleasant place to go hiking and see Australian wildlife. It is a long ride from Melbourne and can be described to Americans as visiting the Catskills or Poconos. Our room was large and clean with all the basics but it was pretty outdated. We were in the... We stayed as a family and were given a room across the road in an annex. The room itself was fairly simple, but clean and there was loads of space. I think the rooms and views from the main section would have been much nicer, and they also benefit from free wifi which our rooms did not have. I did,... More

What a great place this is despite being in the middle of nowhere. The food in this restaurant is the best I have eaten anywhere. The service is first class. The only issue (its a small one) was that the wine list is overpriced. Having sad that it is probably the most extensive wine list around. The accommodation here is... More
