We booked the Royalmail for Easter Saturday expecting a luxurious escape in the heart of the grampians. However the entire experience was a complete disappointment. First impressions are everything, so with front of house staff being indifferent, almost to the point of rude, the Royalmail had a lot of ground to make up 5 minutes into arrival. Another letdown was finding... More

We ate the degustation dinner at the Royal Mail a couple of years ago and found it amazing. However, we did not want to spend as much money - or time- as the full dinner demands, and were staying in Halls Gap so chose to eat lunch in the bistro. As opposed to the bar, which is at one end... More

We chose one of the Cottages for our special occasion stay. They're about 2km out of town, away from the main property. That was an excellent choice! The Cottage has old world charm, they are authentic old cottages that have been refurbished inside and have marvellous bathrooms attached to look like a water tank. Having the separate living room with... More

Having just had our 5th visit to the Royal Mail in Dunkeld, it can only be put in the category of an experience you must have. The standard keeps on keeping on. We have experienced log cabins, the Hotel 10 years ago, Mt Sturgeon Station accommodation and this time back to the Hotel. The rooms have been recently upgraded and... More

Couldn't be more disappointed after we left and it was about to get worse. A day after check out I get this " pretend to be personal automatically generated email" talking about what a delight it hade been with our stay. Completely wrong and not what you want after a bad experience which also had been pointed out. But ok... More

Stayed in a very tired and gloomy apartment, due for refurbishment, and suffered a disappointing tasting menu at the restaurant with interminably slow and pretentious service and very average food for an outrageous price. Having since eaten in a number of good restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne, the Royal Mail restaurant compares incredibly badly as a cynical rip off. Give... More

Rather than celebrating Valentine’s Day in Melbourne, my husband surprised me with a weekend getaway to The Grampians. The drive to Dunkeld was considerably long (3hrs non-stop) and rather uninspiring with repetitive scenery the whole way. And I was left wondering whether this hotel and meal would be worth it. And without a doubt, it was. From our very first... More

This is a gem! Wonderful birds outside, a great pool and setting. It is bisected by a main road (with no cars on it!) in the middle of nowhere. But.. the food is outstanding, and it has THE BEST wine list in Australia - three different restaurants, cafe, bistro and gastro with a Menu Degustation to die for. Do go.... More

We booked for lunch at the Royal Mail and enjoyed select wines and amazing food that was all about flavours. Thanks Paulette for looking after us. Our group of 6 stayed at Mt. Sturgeon cottages 5 & 6. We had a lovely restful time and had a small walk and a relaxing time with good friends sitting by the fire.... More

When someone says they are going to stay at the Royal Mail, what do you think of first... The food of course! Tomorrow is our 1 year wedding anniversary and my husband booked a night at the Royal Mail to celebrate. He booked a deluxe mountain view room which cost over $400 for the night and included a $100 voucher... More
