Our arrival was a bit confusing - the first room we went to already had luggage in it.. as did a second one.. but once resolved we had a large clean twin room. The hotel is full of character so don't expect a bland 'Premier Inn' style - the floors creek and the hot water was unpredictable - but it... More

We recently travelled from north Wales to Carmarthen on a Sunday and wanted a restful place to have our lunch. We were lucky enough to get the last table in the dining room and had a traditional Sunday lunch served by friendly and efficient waitresses.

Recently stayed at the Wynnstay for one night arriving late and leaving early. Very friendly welcome, excellent room - clean and tidy. Breakfast very good. If ever in Mach again I would definitively return.

For a one night stay at the end of 100 mile bike ride we wanted somewhere comfortable and welcoming. The Wynnstay did the job for us. Good staff, welcoming polite and friendly. Room was a twin first floor overlooking the main street but we had no issue with noise. Room was spacious and ideal for what we wanted. Characterful, traditional,... More

For a start, this hotel has understood that a cream tea should have plain scones. It is very rare to find this, and I end up reluctantly eating fruit scones with jam. Not so at the Wynnstay where I had some excellent plain scones. It is strange to see that the Wynnstay has not made much of an effort to... More

Dear John B, Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post such a kind review. We try to give equal attention to all aspects of the food and drink here at The Wynnstay, and it is always encouraging to have such positive feedback. I take your point completely about the jam! As we do not add any artificial... More

Fabulous historical building situated in the centre of beautiful Machynlleth. I stayed here with my dog - who was also made to feel so welcome. Fantastic food with locally sourced produce, friendly staff - could not fault our stay. Didn't want to leave.

A large group of walkers, we rather dominated the hotel during our three night stay. Our room was large and comfortable but situated immediately above the main dining and was initially a bit noisy for an early night's rest. That said we had a large meal which was well cooked. Some found the venison a little on the thick side... More

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for your kind words, we are delighted to have accommodated you all and that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are aware of the issues with wi/fi, and are always looking for alternatives, as our thick old walls and corners do not help!! Hopefully the next time we see you things will have... More

The Wynnstay is very centrally located in Machynlleth. We chose one of the superior rooms, as I was not keen to stay in a room where dogs are allowed - and they aren't allowed in the superior ones. The room in fairness was very large, if a tiny bit old-fashioned, but clean and comfortable. I booked secure bicycle storage in... More

Dear Clarebear Wales, Thank you very much indeed for taking the time and trouble to review us in such a positive manner, we take your comments on board about the room ( one of the hardest things in an old building like this is retaining character during upgrade!)and hope to see you again on your travels. Best wishes, Gareth Johns,... More

The Wynnstay marked the penultimate stop of my week-long coastal path holiday. It’s prominently and conveniently located on the main street close to the clock tower, so from the direction of Borth you come down the hills, enter the town and arrive here in no time at all. The reception gave me a warm welcome, from which there’s a staircase... More

I've stayed here a few times over the last two years, though the menu hasn't changed much in that time. The food is mediocre at best. Staff are pleasant enough, however, morale seems to be low to me. Get a room at the back if you smoke. By the smell, this is where the smoking rooms are located. Albeit not... More

Dear Basilfaulty12, I am sorry to hear that you have had less than pleasant experiences in our little corner of paradise. I do, however, take great exception to our food being described as mediocre at best, the menu does not change dramatically, nor is it modern and trendy, this is true, but i take great care and pride in the...
