A large group of walkers, we rather dominated the hotel during our three night stay. Our room was large and comfortable but situated immediately above the main dining and was initially a bit noisy for an early night's rest. That said we had a large meal which was well cooked. Some found the venison a little on the thick side... More

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for your kind words, we are delighted to have accommodated you all and that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are aware of the issues with wi/fi, and are always looking for alternatives, as our thick old walls and corners do not help!! Hopefully the next time we see you things will have... More

The Wynnstay is very centrally located in Machynlleth. We chose one of the superior rooms, as I was not keen to stay in a room where dogs are allowed - and they aren't allowed in the superior ones. The room in fairness was very large, if a tiny bit old-fashioned, but clean and comfortable. I booked secure bicycle storage in... More

Dear Clarebear Wales, Thank you very much indeed for taking the time and trouble to review us in such a positive manner, we take your comments on board about the room ( one of the hardest things in an old building like this is retaining character during upgrade!)and hope to see you again on your travels. Best wishes, Gareth Johns,... More

The Wynnstay marked the penultimate stop of my week-long coastal path holiday. It’s prominently and conveniently located on the main street close to the clock tower, so from the direction of Borth you come down the hills, enter the town and arrive here in no time at all. The reception gave me a warm welcome, from which there’s a staircase... More

I've stayed here a few times over the last two years, though the menu hasn't changed much in that time. The food is mediocre at best. Staff are pleasant enough, however, morale seems to be low to me. Get a room at the back if you smoke. By the smell, this is where the smoking rooms are located. Albeit not... More

Dear Basilfaulty12, I am sorry to hear that you have had less than pleasant experiences in our little corner of paradise. I do, however, take great exception to our food being described as mediocre at best, the menu does not change dramatically, nor is it modern and trendy, this is true, but i take great care and pride in the... staying nearby, we had heard that the Wynnstay Hotel was the place to eat in Machynleth. The meal was good, staff very pleasant and helpful. Only gripe I suppose is that there is no wifi unless you are a resident. If you have teenagers with you wifi apparently is essential.

Hello, Martin Thank you very much for your kind review, I do apologize for you not being able to access the wiFi (it is a little intermittent in our thick old walls!) but we do now allow non-resident access, and will be delighted to provide it should you (as we hope you will) visit again. Best wishes, Gareth More

This is a grandiose hotel in the heart of Machynlleth, a delightful market town and once the home of Owain Glyndwr's parliament. The front lounge is elegant and airy, the bar cosy and friendly, and my room was warm, well-appointed and comfortable. The staff were, without exception, lovely - a real pleasure to deal with and who always had time... More

We were a group of four couples staying for three nights to do some walking in the area. First let me say that Machynlleth needs a good hotel and the Wynnstay is almost there. Good things are the staff who were great and the quality of the local produce that we had both at breakfast and dinner. The ambience in... More

The Wynnstay provided comfortable bed and very good food, good value for money and the room facilities bathroom TV etc were fine. Staff were very helpful and pleasant - both at reception and in the restaurant. Meals well cooked and presented (I recommend the plum meringue!).The building has character and although in reasonable condition, could benefit from some cosmetic redecoration... More

Loved this little hotel, filled with cosy charm and smiling staff. Situated central in the town so a great meeting point. Receptionists were very helpful, and the locals that litter the bar area are charming, particularly one older gentleman who was very talkative and filled with local wisdom.

My wife and I needed an evening meal one day in August 2014. We were recommended the Wynnstay and, to be fair, had an excellent meal at a reasonable price. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the belly pork, which was well presented. Restaurant service was friendly and unhurried but I had to search for someone in... More
