The good things: The location was ideal with very plenty of convenient off road parking. The complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits were lovely. The breakfast service was extremely quick Free WiFi was great The Bad things: Firstly, the room photos were not really representative of the actual bedrooms- the real ones (like others have said) are very tired and dated.... Located very conveniently for Monmouth centre and a good stopping point for Offa's Dyke walkers (our reason for booking. The room was large and spacious with a well equipped en-suite. It was quiet and the staff were very helpful, welcoming and polite. The room itself could do with a bit of updating but it was comfortable and clean.

This is my reaction having spent last Wednesday night at the Riverside, we returned home to give our findings - only to first read past reports. Was this really the hotel we stayed at, and the one reflected below or, are people having a go at it unmercifully? My wife and myself received a good welcome from Malcolm at the... More

We booked the Riverside hotel as we were walking the Offas Dyke path and needed somewhere which took dogs. The room and beds were clean and comfortable however the decor was very tired. The restaurant was not available for evening meals so we went out to eat. The bar area was pleasant for a relaxing drink. The breakfast was poor with... More

Had the unfortunate experience of spending the night here with friends. I'm surprised something like this is still standing and allowed to run as a business. The rooms are filthy and old- in dire need of refurbishment. The beds - uncomfortable and fragile looking, the bathroom - dirty and not fit for commercial use, the crockery & kettle in room-... Room was spacious and clean. Provided with toiletries, tea coffee and biscuits! Breakfast was lovely and the staff were very nice. Location is a stone throw into the charming town. Lots of character pubs and shops. I would certainly stay here again.

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in, room was filthy and smelled awful really musty. This hotel is certainly is not cheap, we stayed 2 nights and was £150. The place is falling apart and I was afraid to touch anything in case it broke. Staff really didn't have a clue they were not rude but just not very... More

Location was good, area very pretty. We stayed here for 2 night 2 days ago. Weather outside was hot. Hotel room was stifling. We couldnt sleep. Has to ask for a fan as windows were jammed shut. Fan was given but was as dirty as the room. Everything was grubby, carpet crunchy and in need of ripping out and starting... More

We paid £75 for a night's stay here. It was worth £30 for the two of us. The room was stiflingly hot, the fan was broken and we wedged it up with a chair to make it stop making an awful noise. There was a smell of fried food throughout the hotel, the bed was soft and lumpy, the carpet... More
