5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Arrived late here after a long GPS-lost drive around the dark Monmouth countryside but they were hugely welcoming despite us being so late. We were shown our rooms (compact & bijou I guess -- not huge but fine for an overnight stay) and after a quick shower, found our way back to the restaurant/bar area. Seated by the warm fire,... I live abroad part of the year and the Inn at Penallt is always my first port of call for an evening out when I return home nearby. The welcome givien by Andrew and his staff is second to none and the food is excellent. Last night we chose the venison and the pork belly with crispy crackling. Both dishes... More

After reading other reviews I was looking forward to lunch with my husband, sister and brother in law. It was a cold day and unfortunately it was cold inside too. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the starter was very good and the dessert divine, but, the main course was extremely disappointing. We opted for beer battered cod with... More

Dear Chris661, many thanks for taking the time to visit us at The Inn, although pleased that you enjoyed your starter, dessert and staff service Jackie and I are disappointed that your main course wasn't as we our our chefs would wish. Everyone at The Inn sets out to make sure all our guests enjoy their time with us, although... More

We stayed 2 nights and our adult children stayed 1 night for a family get together. Couldn't fault it. Food is fabulous with excellent service and friendly staff. Rooms are fine for a short break - a bit small but nicely decorated and clean, and much cheaper than other "restaurants with rooms" in the area. Great breakfast. Very nice walks... More

If everyone who visited Wales stayed here they would never leave the country. Thank you for such welcoming hospitality, an amazingly beautiful setting, sensational breakfasts, outstanding dinner and the locals who provided such friendly and entertaining conversation for a lone traveller. And the tea and cake when I had to get some work done was perfectly timed. Will return!

We stayed on a three night break having never visited this part of Wales before. We had a very warm welcome from the owner Andrew (we met Jackie at breakfast the following day) who extended the welcome to our dog also! As well as being dog friendly, the other reason we chose the Inn was because of the reviews for... More

Had to write a second review as we love love love this place. Stayed with my partner and his two teenage children on a Saturday night before a canoe trip on the Wye on Sunday. We opted for the stay and dine deal and again had an amazing time. The food was top notch, and made with the best local... More

My wife and I stayed at the hotel in Room number three on the 30th August 2014. We were greeted by young tall gentleman who showed us to our room which is in an Annex area of the building. It was a very friendly welcome! The room was a bit small but we appreciated the special touches you just don't... More

We have stayed here twice now and still overwhelmed by the warm and kind service that is given. A number of my family members have been and we all rave about it. Food is wonderful and really makes you feel in wales. Can't say enough about the place but very recommended for a snug weekend or night away with great... More

We arrived in Wales after spending a week in Devon. It was a long journey are we had to detour back to the new bridge which added two hours of confusion. Our first meal was at the Inn at Penallt. We were exhausted and looked forward to a relaxed and delicious dinner, after all it is Michelin rated. I had... More
