I read the previous reviews with some trepidation & wasn't quite sure what to expect. Yes it's old fashioned (the wallpaper in my room was something else!) but it's toasty warm, the rooms are large, & the staff were happy to serve me. I ate in the Alpine Bar while watching the curling - a first for me! The meal... More

This hotel has been in my top 10 for about 15 years and remains there from my last visit too. It is wonderfully old fashioned but everything is in good condition and works as expected. The dining hall is fantastic, even sat on your own, and the food and service is of a high standard for the class of hotel.... More

Stayed here on a Tuesday night in early feb 1 checked in- requested a double room and got twin instead with single beds! 2 top sheets manky, single beds are not the most comfortable to sleep in at the best of times and this is an uncofortble tough bed to even try! 3 Tuesday night and they have a full... We booked into the North West Castle having been very disappointed in our original booking in the town ( it was a filthy, stormy night and the other accommodation had no front lighting on whatsoever and in daylight looked like a cross between the Adams Family and something a wrecking ball hadn't quite finished with). From the very beginning we were... More

Double bed room for £59 room only rate as leaving at 6:30am. Room clean fresh decor a bit dated but adds to its charm. I ate and had a couple of pints in the Alpine bar which overlooks the curling rink. Barman was friendly, food was good quality and good value. Check out being early was painless as the night... Four of us aged over 60 spent Christmas at this hotel on a 3 day break and we couldn't have asked for better. The rooms were clean and warm the service was great and the food was amazing and plenty of it. All in all it was well worth the money we paid. Thankyou.

I have just spent an amazing time at thus lovely hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful, the owner/ manager took time to greet every visitor personally to get feedback. The 3 night Hogmanay package is tremendous value. Lots of activities to keep all age groups happy and the food was outstanding well worth a visit

This is a very long established family run hotel used heavily by the people of Stranraer for weddings, events, Rotary etc. However the family need to realise the standards expected nowadays by people visiting the area are not those of 30 years ago. I required a disabled room which was excellent. Large and roomy with a wonderful very modern bathroom.... More

I read the reviews before booking so was expecting a hotel in need of some updating and yes its not the most luxurious in that respect. But rooms were very spacious and clean, hotel is very central, good car parking, ate in the restaurant, excellent quality meal and watched the curling which was a first for me and used the... More

Imposing building on the seafront and lovely inside. Some of the decor is a bit dated but the bedrooms and bathrooms were modern and very clean. Staff were excellent, such as bringing fresh milk to my room. Beds were comfortable and the area is quiet so a good night's sleep is guaranteed. Breakfast was great, from help-yourself juice and cereals... More
