The hotel itself is a little dated, however is very comfortable, clean and with friendly staff. The reason for the 'average' is that the hotel has an ice rink and a lovely bar that only seem to be available to suit curlers. The bar is very comfortable, has a lovely feel to it and great atmosphere - when it is... More

From 1st arrival (somewhat earlier than check in) to departure the staff could not have been more helpful, receptionist went up to check if room was available and allowed us to check in, chatted away whilst checking in, asked if we wished to book time for dinner, explained where room was and pointed out facilities i.e:- Bar ,Restaraunt and Leisure... Had a wonderful time yesterday at this Castle, afternoon tea for my mothers 86th birthday with her sisters. A resounding well done, an excellent service. Booked on the phone, everyone so courteous and helpful. Nothing was a problem for Kirsten who took the booking. Quality was super, too much to eat (not a complaint) service in dinning room was excellent.... More

We; a family of 16, found out on the Tuesday that our ferry to Arran was cancelled and we had to find alternative accomodation for our matriachal 80th Birthday celebrations. We discovered this hotel; which was happy to accomodat at such short notice. On entering the hotel; in all honesty, we though it was a little tired. However that paled... More

I really love staying in older traditional hotels, and the North West Castle is one of the best ive stayed in recently. It has a air of historic grandeur about it, yet still has modern up to date facilities. We were greeted by friendly staff, including a lad who carried our bags to our room. The rooms were spacious, warm... More

Others have noted that this hotel does not have the "freshest" decor, but our experience was that the room was clean, quiet, comfortable and reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly and helpful, offering recommendations, helping us make a change in our reservation, establishing a wifi connection and patiently answering our questions about the curling rink and other facilities. The... More

6 of us stayed in 3 twin rooms on Friday and Saturday 12th and 13th June. We had in the previous 2 years stayed at the Fernhill Hotel in Port Patrick, a sister hotel in the McMillan family chain, and were impressed such that we thought we'd try their Stranraer eqivalent. This was once an impressive building ( incl pool,... More
