Don't turn up expecting state of the art . This is a fantastic family run hotel which takes pride in doing things right . The decor may be a bit dated but the staff, service ,food and organisation is second to none. I organised a mini golf break for 4 of us and we had a fantastic time . The... More

This is the 3rd time I have stayed in this hoteI. Love It!! The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them.On my first visit the man who offered to help me from the car with my cases and whom I presumed was the porter I now know as Hammy the owner. The food and service in... Firstly I could not detect any fusty smell that some other reviewers mentioned. First impressions old world charm so if you want boutique then this hotel is not for you. My room had a wonderful view, a little tired around the edges but very comfortable.maybe there could be a little more attention to detail to give the wow factors to... More

This must rate as the shabbiest, smelliest hotel I have ever stayed in. It was like staying in a residential care home for old people. Nothing could entice me back to this hotel or Stranraer which is nothing less than dismal. Why anyone would choose to holiday here when Portpatrick is only 10 minutes further down the A77 I have... Sitting in the hotel bar as I write this. Booked a 2 night stay for a wee break for myself and husband. Booked through classic Britain, 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast £52 pp per night. The hotel is dated and in some communal areas there is a strong damp musty smell but our room was fab, dated but clean... More

This hotel has great potential but is stuck in a time warp. We arrived on Saturday 6 September and departed on the 8th. The lobby area was not cleaned in-between - confetti from the Saturday wedding was still on the entrance mat when we checked out. The communal areas were stale and fusty - putrid! Totally unacceptable for an establishment... More

Just a one night stay BUT this was enough to tell us this was our kind of hotel... Excellent staff... attention to detail... comfortable rooms... and an owner that genuinely cares (despite his venerable age!).. and then there was the breakfast... OMG it was stunning! Question to self - why have we never stayed here before?? Will put it right... More

Large spacious hotel ... Oldy worldy with traditional decor ... Good service and large rooms ... Central location ... Nice breakfasts with traditionally Scottish touches ... Close to what used to be the main port .. welcoming staff .......

Yes we only had two days stay in the hotel in a twin room, but we came back refreshed as if we had been away for a week or more. The hotel may not register as a 5 star, but the attention of staff to your requests certainly do. The food in the restaurant will knock your socks off, Duck... More
