We stayed just one night at the Marine. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel looks to have been renovated recently and the rooms are finished to a high level. Breakfast was delicious. Impressed with everything about our stay.

If I could of given this place no stars I would of done! Stayed one night in December 2019 (visited dates won’t let me go back that far) as we had an early ferry the next morning. Had to check in at the bar next door and they wanted a cash payment even though booking.com said card was accepted, so we had to wander around Stranraer with cases a dog and a child in the pouring rain to find a cash point, they then tried to charge more than what I had booked for and luckily and I had printed out the confirmation as they was quite adamant that they was right. At first glance the room seemed ok, but upon further inspection it was disgusting! Cups and spoons had what I could only guess was dried on porridge, bins was full to the brim and I’m now slightly worried that the beds hadn’t even been changed from the previous guests! When I looked for someone to complain to there was no one about! The next morning we had to leave before breakfast so again no one was about, most doors was locked and we couldn’t just turn a handle to get out, it was lucky we kept our room key with front door lock on it that we could unlock ourselves out. As well as being not informed about the correct leaving requirements at check as they knew we was leaving early and no one would be there, it is EXTREMELY dangerous to be locked in ?!?!, what if there had been a fire?!? It felt like it was like a death trap! Please stay in better places elsewhere for the same if not cheap cost!

A lovely little place ths was .the room has all that you needed .very modern and clean .good value for money as well. The sad factor was that due to covid there was no bar .this was a run down remnants of what was formerly the bar and we could not obtain any form of breakfast there. It is indeed sad times for small b&b s at the moment they must be struggling so much

Drove 5 hours up to Scotland to arrive to a dirty, dark, unsafe and inaccessible house. When we arrived, the front door was wide open, allowing access to anyone. No reception to keep an eye on who is coming in and out. Not only this, but my bedroom door key worked in every other door - very unsafe. An older member of our family who came with us, who is partially sighted, struggled to access their bedroom as there was no lift, only partial hand rails, and the corridors were pitch black. They had to struggle up the stairs which were steep and absolutely covered in dust. This was extremely dangerous. One of the windows in our bedrooms was broken, there was no hot water, the showers were dirty. There are no extra measures to protect people against the coronavirus. No hand sanitiser upon entry, the rooms were not clean, and the landlord who showed us to our rooms did not wear a face covering, despite the narrow and small space in the house. Absolutely shambolic service.

This review is WAY overdue but in no way is diminished by the delay! The new owner of the Marine House could not have been more amazing! He not only provided a one-on-one welcome, superb breakfast, and friendly and warm conversation but he did something not many would do. After checking out of the hotel, we headed to the ferry port 20 minutes away to catch our reserved 1 per day ferry to Belfast. About 1/2 way there, we discovered that the backpack with our passports, money, etc. had been left in the Marine House breakfast room. We quickly turned around to go back. When we got to the hotel, we were told that the owner had found the backpack and was driving it to the port. While I frantically paced, the staff was eventually able to reach him to tell him we were at the hotel. He speedily returned to the hotel and gave us the backpack. We managed to get back to the ferry just in time to get on it. This selfless act of kindness will NEVER be forgotten! We had met so many gracious and kind Scotsmen during our journey so he may ot have thought what he did was not especially extraordinary, but we know that our lives could have become extremely difficult if it weren't for him. My biggest regret is that I never got to properly than him - and buy him a few rounds! "Thank you" just doesn't say enough.

We have stayed here twice, on both occasions prior to an early ferry to Larne. The room we had overlooked the harbour. It had been recently refurbished and everything was of a high standard. The breakfast was really tasty and well cooked. The owner and staff were really welcoming. This is a good place to stay, particularly prior to a ferry crossing from Cairnryan.

Situated on the Main Street opposite Agnew park with good views of the loch. Room was clean, tidy and presentable. Tea and coffee making in the room, en suite with plentiful hot water. Hotel is above an Indian restaurant but we couldn’t tell. Bed was clean and comfortable and we could bring the dog which saved him sleeping in the car!
