Spent a few holidays at the adjoing holiday lets owned by the Downshire - Portpatrick Holiday Homes! Absolutely first class. Everything you could need in the home for a mini break or a week long holiday. Very clean and spacious! The Downshire Pub is cracking - a lovely traditional pub, roaring fire, great range of food and drinks and lovely... More

We spent a cold 1st November evening in this place and were welcomed at the bar by the owner and locals. With the tourist season over, there were no other visitors in sight. We were overwhelmed by the warm hospitality and generosity and spent perhaps our best evening of our 5 day tour in this place. Had we known, we'd... More

Whilst on a touring weekend, 10 of us descended on the Hotel for some pub grub. We were directed to the restaurant upstairs, where we were given an excellent welcome and given our menus. Plenty of choice of food with several more options on their specials menu. When the food arrived we were not disappointed. Considering how many of us... More

We came to portpatrick on for a look 1 night visit, as that was the only accommodation we could get . But as usual we didn't want to leave . Tried the downshire as had tried everywhere else . Should have tried here first. Got a room in hotel for following night. Following day we arrived to check in an... More

We only found the Downshire after booking 4 nights in a neighbouring rented cottage - it took about 4 hrs to work out its the best pub in the vill. In fact, though a hotel, it's got the ONLY proper bar in the place AND its got the best jukeboke I`ve ever played! Family run, dad Paul is a star... More

OK - it is a sports bar - tvs everywhere and all tuned to sports channels but that didnt matter to us - we popped in here at 5pm on a Wednesday afternoon for our dinner and we were not disappointed - the menu was great and very varied - hubby had the slow cooked beef olives and I got... More

The staff and the excellent food made our weekend stay at the downshire portpatrick fab-u-lous although the rooms looked at wee bit tired they were clean and warm. The entertainment during the folk festival was second to none Sean Taylor-AMAZING. Booked already at the same hotel for next year:)

Had a meal in the Downshire hotel the cod was grey and exttreamly small, the language was terrible, and there are at least six tv,s in the bar and all of them are on, you can not turn your head without staring at one. Not reccomended

Had a weekend at a local caravan site and visited The Downshire for lunch. It has an "old mans pub" kinda feel inside but this should in no way put anyone off if they are looking for a bite to eat. The menu is good and they have a specials board which I chose from. I had the slow cooked... More
