We recently walked the West Highland Way and used many bars, restaurants, B&B's and hotels along the route. The Dalkell Cottage is stuck in a bit of a time warp! This was our fourth nights stay and I must say was the worst of the week. The rooms are very old and jaded with 1970's style décor and a damp... More

Not sure what some of the less flattering reviews on here are on about. This B&B is not luxurious - but it doesn't claim to be. Ok - so it's a little outdated - but that doesn't matter - it's very comfortable and reasonably priced. The lasting impression is much better than first impressions of the rooms. Our party had... This is a lovely looking cottage and Chris our host seemed nice. However the rooms are tiny with barely enough room to walk around the bed, and the bathroom is nothing more than a walk in wardrobe. The rooms do not have televisions or internet connection. There is a television in the communial lounge. The breakfast was very nice and... More

Booking the WHW only 4 days before we were to set off we were advised that in Tyndrum the only accommodation that was left had shared facilities. Again as some have mentioned we also got a cold welcome from Angela on arriving after the suggested time of 4pm. We too had to wait at the back door and remove our... More

The Dalkell Cottage Guest house was a decent place to stay on the West Highland Way. The main problem for us was the somewhat compact size of the room and the tiny ensuite. As this was the most expensive B&B type facility we stayed in on the Way, we had expected better sized accommodation for this price. Also, the old... More

We arrived soaking wet and unfortunately were kept waiting at back door for the host to bring us through to lounge area. Also I really feel it was unnecessary to be asked to complete breakfast request and payment before even 'allowed' to take off wet jackets. We were so wet we were dripping on the floor! Nonetheless slept well in... More

Dalkell Cottage was a comfortable place to stay for a night on the West Highland Way. The double room was small but adequate, and the bed was comfortable. There was a nice selection of teas and biscuits in the room. The breakfast menu provided lots of well-prepared options, including the Full Scottish and vegetarian choices. Best of all, they brewed... This B & B was prebooked by the travel company we are using. I had read the reviews and wondered what to expect. True enough the room wasn't big and we did have the en suite in the wardrobe, it just made us giggle! All in all, the place is a bit tired looking but the bed was comfy, shower... More

To be honest for the money paid the accommodation is simply over priced in comparison to other places I have stayed in. There is something to say about having to pay up front first and then be shown a tidy room. I was very disappointed after expecting to have a nice Hot Bath to find the water only luke warm!... More

Well, I am one of "Gordon's Pals" from the review by Sandy W. We all had a brilliant time during our one night stay at Dalkell Cottage. Chris and Angela were very welcoming again and sought to make our short stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. All the cyclists had a great nights sleep with plenty of peace and... More
