Upon entering the hotel we were subjected to a very unpleasant smell I can only describe as similar to a pack of wet dogs together with a general look of decay. Our bedroom although well decorated and equiped came with an unwanted extra single bed leaving very little space to move around. Tired after a long day before unpacking we... more

We walked the West Highland Way here - Drymen to Rowardennan via Balmaha. It is directly on the WHW, so the location is perfect. On the end of a dead end road, so you have to want to come here! The other clientele I think were fishermen and hikers for Ben Lomond. Our room (#17) was brand new as far... more

I stayed with a group of fourteen and we loved Matthew and his dedicated and sincerely hospitable staff. The hotel is undergoing a renovation, and must juggle more than the usual services. Yet we were treated with charm and friendliness, and were served breakfast promptly and generously every morning. Matthew performed a miracle check-out which kept us on schedule for... more

First the bad part... The hotel is joined to a pub, so expect plenty of general noise, car park, banging doors (and fights at kicking out time). Rooms don't seem very well insulated against this. We had an off suite room (#11), #10 is similar. However, the bedroom and the bathroom were both newly decorated (inc new carpets) and suitably... more

The location of this hotel is excellent - right on Loch Lomond and at the start of the main route for walking up Ben Lomond. However, this is where the positives end. The place is currently being refurbished around the guests! No carpet on the main staircase, signs indicating "warning - falling objects" and electrical fittings hanging out of walls... more

Have just returned from a wonderful weekend at this hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - from carrying our bags late on Friday evening to serving me breakfast outside on Sunday morning. Had dinner on Saturday evening and the portions were huge and good value for money.Main meals £8-10 , starters and desserts £3-4 , and a... more

We had read some of the reviews and were wary, but how wrong they were! The staff did everything they could to help us enjoy our stay. This is a walkers hotel in fabulous scenery. We were met by a rather nervous manager as they had found a plumbng problem in our designated room, and had tried and failed to... more

We visited this place several times during the 1980's & I now know that was a big mistake given the overall standard & the attitude of the owner. However, spurred on by their 'enticing' 'web site & feeling nostagic towards the fantastic east shore Loch Lomond + hoping for new management, we decided to give it one more try. At... more

We also stayed here whilst doing the WHW. The hotel's location means they get a lot of guests (the only other local option being the youth hostel). If doing the way again I would contact a B&B in Drymen or Balmaha and ask if they do a pick up (most do) as it would definitely be better value (and a... more
