I have been coming to Rothesay for 21 years . I have read the positive reviews above. Every one is justified,I only found out above the Alamein from a good friend about 4 years ago. I do wish I had found out about this marvellous place when I first came to Rothesay.I don't think you could get better value anywhere... More

Ursula could not make you more welcome, as other reviewers say. We had a lovely stay in the annexe room which would be great for dogs as it is just by the front door. We are vegetarians and Ursula was very happy to provide a lovely breakfast for us. And the history and memorabilia about Alamein made it extra special.

Stayed here for a few nights last week and had a wonderful stay. Ursula was totally welcoming and the breakfast was excellent and plenty of it. Room was excellent for the rates. Our room was spacious, clean and we had an excellent sea view from it. It was Room 6, the double on the first floor. The twin (No 5)... More

I stayed with Ursula over Easter, and can attest to the same warm welcome that many other travellers have spoken about. I was in a double attic room with a seaview at a single occupancy rate which was very good value for money. I enjoyed relaxed chats with Ursula after breakfast, catching up about the goings on in Bute. I... More

We arrived mid afternoon with our bikes, which the owner kindly let us keep in the spare bathroom downstairs. We even persuaded her to wash our cycling clothes (for a small donation) to save us walking into town and waiting in the laundrette for hours. Very kind of her to do that for us as I don't think she has... More

My partner & I have stay at Alamein House several times now, while visiting friends on the island. Each time Ursula has made us really welcome. She has a very warm welcoming smile, that makes you feel very much at home as soon as you arrive. The rooms are lovely & comfortable, everything you need, ie coffee, tea, biscuits for... More

Spent a lovely week at Alamein House. Ursula made my granddaughter, my mini poodle Lucy, and me very welcome. (Lucy is very well behaved but sometimes it's difficult to convince hoteliers that she will be no trouble). The breakfast was delicious and freshly cooked to order. We had a ground floor twin with en-suite and a lovely view of the... More

A very comfortable stay at a really reasonable price. Ursula is a very friendly and helpful host. Bedrooms are well equipped and most seem to have great sea views. Breakfasts are substantial. I would definitely book again.
