I had booked a fishing Party of 4 to fish the Ythan Estuary (new experience ) and the fishery manager insisted that we stayed at the Udny Arms. Having read the reviews and considered the fishing party consisted of ex Hoteliers, ex Pub owners and restraturers I was some what concerned that I was putting my hide in danger of... More

Had an amazing dinner last night that surpassed all expectations - we had a deal2 voucher for 2 courses & a glass of prosecco each .... We had 4 courses and a botte of wine and just paid £5 for 2 coffees with home made sweets. Cauliflower velouté , scallops & black pudding starter very generous portion & beautifully presented,... We stayed at Udny for the first night of our honeymoon 16 years ago. Decided to go back for a night to celebrate our anniversary. Read the reviews and wondered if this was a good idea as they are pretty terrible! Granted, the place needs lots of TLC in terms of decoration and it does look very tired. However, this... More

I was disappointed with the place for what I paid but I suppose peak summer in tourist Scotland means no-where is cheap. The whole place is tatty and grubby although the room itself was a good size and clean but old. Ate in the pub for my evening meal and the food was pretty good - very well presented and... More

I had the misfortune of staying at this hell-hole as part of a work trip. Being 14 miles outside Aberdeen, it's not really suitable for a business trip, taking an hour and a half drive to the outskirts of Aberdeen during rush hour. The whole hotel is just really shabby. The dated decor appears to match the last time it... More

Stopped in past here for lunch. The exterior of the hotel is in need of some attention. The overgrown hedge obscures the sign advertising the fact that food is served. On taking the steps up to the hotel the rotten woodwork of the doorway is clear to see. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food is of a high... More

The Udny Arms is rather shabby, but the food is good and the location excellent. There's no lift so expect to lug your bags upstairs. My room needed updating, especially the bathroom. However, I enjoyed the fish and chips in the restaurant. And best of all if you walk out the back door and over a bridge, a meandering walk... More

My wife and myself had our evening meal at the Udny Arms last week. The food and friendly service was great, and a big thank you to them all. The view you get from the restaurant upstairs is very nice. The hotel is slowly being upgraded will take some time. I'm puzzled by some of the moaning complaints on here,... More

Travelled to Aberdeen area for golf trip, and this hotel was ideally placed between Aberdeen and Cruden Bay.It is an older style hotel with traditional décor, and yes it could do with refurbishment. It is however, clean and comfortable, with very helpful and obliging staff. The hotel has a bar serving food and drink of extremely high quality. As good fish and chips as you would... As you enter the rotting front door which desperately needs renewing, and not just redecorating, you wonder what you have come to. The hotel generally was shabby in parts, and the stairway to the second floor needed redecoration, as did parts of room 27, which had battered corners to the room, and paint peeling off the ceiling in the en-suite... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestling in a delightful part of Grampian Scotland, the Udny Arms Hotel is very convenient for Aberdeen and main routes, yet sitting quietly in a riverside, country village setting, not far from the coast and beaches. Cruden Bay and the famous Royal Aberdeen championship golf course are only a few minutes away. The hotel still bears testimony to the golden age of touring, golfing and country sporting activity and has carefully retained all that unmistakable character and personality and many artefacts of a bygone era. Modern comforts blend with a traditional style and charm that escapes most city centre hotels, making it a wonderful alternative to Aberdeen for the discerning traveller seeking that bit more than a standardised city centre hotel. ... more   less
