We stopped here on our way to exploring Aberdeenshire's golf courses and we were overall satisfied with this solution. This is not a 5-stars city-hotel! anyone expecting a similar standard or service will be disappointed. Still, I would certainly recommend this place. Making sure one knows what to expect! This is a nice, old-fashioned, family-run, warm and with a typical... More

In 1980 we dined and stayed at The Udny Arms Hotel . It was a foodies haven and a relatively well kept secret. The brown bread ice cream was legendary! Nostalgia drew us back last week but I wish it hadn't . What a shame and waste of potential. We had quite the worst lunch ever and could not finish... More

Don't stay here. Room is about 75 years out of date. Enamel was off the bath in the disgraceful bathroom, towel rail was also off the wall and left on the floor. Food was rubbish Get real- it's 2014 for goodness sake Udny Arms!!

Our first ever visit to this hotel and it is understood that the place has been recently refurbished. The food and choice from the menu were very good, the haddock and real home made chips were some of the best we have ever had. The portions were also excellent. To follow we had sticky toffee pudding, excellent choice. The service... More

I needed a quick one night stop, late rooms provided me with the Udny Arms, what a change here, the new owners have transformed the hotel , the rooms are all newly decorated, as are the public areas, a nice warm welcome even though we were late arriving, and in the morning a huge breakfast to set us up for... my mum and I stayed for 3 nights. Overall it was ok, the staff were all very friendly, the food was good. We were a bit disappointed that the shower wasnt very good but it wouldn't put us off staying again.

The service was lovely. Staff were very helpful and welcoming. The food was amazing and the value for money was second to none. Would highly recommend this place to anyone. The setting is beautiful also and in the middle of a traditional Scottish village.

I waited an hour for my meal to arrive at the table, during which time I had to listen to a loud chap (staff) walking around being annoying to all. Eventually the same chap delivered my food which was just a burger and it was virtually inedible and drenched in fat. No apologies were made for the wait. I then... More

We are so impressed by the helpful and friendly staff. We stopped in momentarily on our road trip. The gentleman at the front told us about the local area, and even drove ahead of us to a lesser-known spot for viewing puffins ! We were thrilled. And we got the shot! Oh, and he invited us in to the lounge... More

Disappointing food. Not much taste to the haddock and the smoked mackerel could have been bought in. Sticky toffee pudding was pretty good though. Such a nice place otherwise, and great service. Very clean toilets.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestling in a delightful part of Grampian Scotland, the Udny Arms Hotel is very convenient for Aberdeen and main routes, yet sitting quietly in a riverside, country village setting, not far from the coast and beaches. Cruden Bay and the famous Royal Aberdeen championship golf course are only a few minutes away. The hotel still bears testimony to the golden age of touring, golfing and country sporting activity and has carefully retained all that unmistakable character and personality and many artefacts of a bygone era. Modern comforts blend with a traditional style and charm that escapes most city centre hotels, making it a wonderful alternative to Aberdeen for the discerning traveller seeking that bit more than a standardised city centre hotel. ... more   less
