i cannot thank the staff at Mar Lodge enough for the way they handled my daughter!s wedding. They really do go the extra mile. Nothing was too much trouble, and they worked so hard behind the scenes to make the day perfect in every way. Thank you ALL.

Self catering hunting lodge suitable for large groups or less. Mar Lodge is perfectly situated in the National Trust of Scotland's Mar Lodge Estate. Lavish grand bedrooms without on suite facilities, but excellent bathrooms at your disposal. Very well appointed kitchen to cater for any occasion, and facilities include a snooker room. Surrounded by lush forests and a vast amount... More

Mar Lodge Estate, accessed via Braemar at the north end of Glenshee. Parking is by ticket, but proceeds go to the National Trust for Scotland. Quite simply, a stunning part of the country. Beautiful scenery. Munros to climb. Deer, eagle and if you are lucky, pine Martin and red squirrel. The walk along the riverside as you enter into the... More

Hi Bob P, Many thanks for the positive review! We couldn't agree more, we really are in a stunning area here. And a good word of advice regarding carrying midge hoods as well, thankfully we don't have too many bad midge days here but as you say one bad midge day is enough! The Mar Lodge Ranger Service More

Came to Mar Lodge to attend a family wedding and made a weekend of it, staying from the Friday through to the Monday. One word kept coming to mind in regards to location, venue and accommodation - WOW!, Stayed in the lodge, Creag Bhalg for the weekend. Being on one level it enabled us to stay in one location as... This is a beautiful former hunting lodge in the Scottish Highlands which is nicely restored after the fire in 1991.The lodge has beautiful accommodations and is able to host receptions. The beautiful panelled reception rooms and dining rooms are very nice. One remarkable feature is the trophy room where hundreds of stags' heads are mounted .As well many stag trophy... More

We stayed here to attend a Wedding and the accommodations, service and food were wonderful. It is a very large old house in the wilds of the Cairngorms and the perfect venue for outdoor sports such as walking, off roading, photography, etc. Wish we could have stayed for longer ....

We were a large group and the apartment was extremely comfortable and spacious! Kim at The Ranger service took us up a valley allegedly looking for rutting deer but the deer were not out to play! Anyway we had a walk and chat with Kim who was a mind of information. A great activity to do!

First off, don't trust your GPS, as it may take you an additional eight miles down a twisty turny 1 and a half lane road. Our GPS (which uses TomTom maps) did not recognise the bridge over the river dee as a viable road. It is one lane and looks like a pedestrian bridge. The sign directing you to take... More

While staying in the village 3 of us were privileged to take part in a NTS grouse Lek safari led by NTS ranger Kim Neilson. The early start was well worth it to see the mist rise over the heather clad hills and witness at close range the intriguing mating dance of 6 male black grouse. Kim's knowledge and information... We stayed in one of the 'apartments' at Mar Lodge with two young children and had a fantastic weekend. The accommodation was better than the official three stars would suggest. Clean, well equipped, spacious, and with fantastic views. We were there for a family wedding, but would return for a holiday. Could not fault!
