We stayed at the Fife Arms for four nights at the beginning of August. We had found a deal on the internet which was half board for £50 a night. After we booked the hotel deal we looked on the reviews, (yes wrong way around, lesson learnt). It had so many poor ratings it looked like we would be staying... More

We only stopped to have lunch which was ok but this hotel requires a urgent refurbishment ASAP . I have stayed in this hotel a few years ago and it required a facelift then. It's shame it's been run into ground this way as it could be so much better and attract family's which could spend a lot more money... More

While the room was okay, despite threadbare carpet, the bathroom was a nightmare at this price: no shower curtain, rubber attachment on the bath taps for a shower, no bathroom products, only amenity a glass on a bare glass shelf, and a bath with which an acid-bath murderer would be happy, but no-one else. There was an accordianist playing music... More

Amazing situation next to the river and a truly impressive building where we thought we may stay overnight. THANK GOODNESS WE CALLED IN BEFORE BOOKING. From the dire sticky tartan carpet in what must have been an amazing room in it's heyday to the dreadful 1970s lounge bar ( we wanted a drink by the river ) goodness only knows... More

After a good day in the hills we dropped into the Fife Arms for a quick drink and hopefully a bite to eat. We hadn't been in for years but were encouraged by the signage outside that said "Food all day" after ordering our drink in the bar around 5.30 we asked for a menu to be told meals didn't... More

I am aware that this is an old hotel and building. But how somebody could let it go to total disaster... The curtains is in pieces, dirt in layer, no working shower, windows that will fall appart when opened, drinks in the bar in plastic cups, dirty plates and cups to breakfast...I could go on and on. This Urquhart gay... More

Travelled through Braemar en route to Pitlochry, stopping for lunch at this hotel. Had a 'bar lunch' - pizza for me and macaroni for my husband. After 45 minutes we were still waiting. Bar was virtually empty so cannot understand why we had to wait so long. When the food arrived it was nothing special. The hotel is in dire... More

Dear John, Many thanks for the review. I will certainly look into the points you have made regarding the breakfast service, our feedback is generally good but clearly we have not met with your expectations on this occasion. We are indeed in a fabulous relaxing location in part of the most beautiful surrounding in Scotland. Regards, Gil McHugh More

Rooms are old fashioned but this is expected as it is an old building, rooms were hot and could only open windows 20 cm as they are old windows, we noticed a few of the hotel workers would drink in the hotel bar in the evenings, the breakfast was average, not the greatest qulity We do plan to go back... Dear Robert, Many thanks for the feedback following your recent stay with us. It is fair to say that the hotel is a very old traditional building which has a lot of character. We do strive to offer excellent value for money with good quality food and service. I was surprised that you did not enjoy your breakfast as we... More
