We camped here for free, as the facilities were offically not opened yet for the season. At least 6 tents were there, with 2 motor homes- why not open up, make some money and allow campers to have facilities? As we had no facilities, we asked if we could pay to use the showers in the bunk house, we were... more

My hubby and I were just married and travelling the countryside. We spent and absolute nightmare night, the night before in Aviemore at a "bunkhouse" and I was not ready to relive another experience like that one. We travelled up into Skye and came across the Sligachan by chance. The receptionist told us the price for the hotel rooms and... more

What a disappointment. Severely understaffed and the staff that were working were extremely surly and rude. Customer service is an unknown word at the Sligachan Hotel. Walking into the bar in the evening, the silence, bright lights and distinct lack of atmosphere left us cold. The vinegary red wine and the lethal scampi were merely the icing on the cake... more

The Sligachan hotel was a perfect base for exploring Skye. The rooms were clean and cosy and the staff helpful and friendly. The Seumas Bar served good food in large portions which was perfect and much appreciated after a long day in the hills. An excellent hotel and it will be our first choice on our next visit to Skye. more

This is a lovely hotel with very dilagent and hard working staff, the rooms were always clean and the food in the restaurant and bar was excellant. Some reviews i have seen were not particulary positive and made me apprehensive but after my stay i would love to return. There is a very multi cultural staff which seemed to help with the many... more

This is a hotel struggling to stay on its feet, clearly once upon a time it was THE place to stay on Skye and it has that aurora of faded glamour which in some ways gives it a little appeal. Our room was a modern one with a nice view over a rear car park towards the Cuilins but it... more

Hotel very clean, rooms well equiped and reception staff friendly & helpful...however, was VERY DISAPPOINTED to find that my room had NO VIEW WHATSOEVER (overlooked an internal courtyard - could just about see some clouds in the sky if I craned my neck, otherwise window might as well have not existed). This lack of an outlook of any kind was... more

What a disgrace that this hotel is even allowed to operate, should be inspected for a multitude of errors. Staff are clueless don't know even what whiskies they have, hello this is the Isle of Skye. They don't know anything about running a bar or a restaurant. Scottish Tourist board please note, as a visitor one should avoid more

Having suffered three nights in the Bunkhouse, I came home and typed "sligachan unfriendly" into Google, and this page was the first result. Says it all really. I'm not talking 'a bit offish' or 'disinterested', but downright rude. Every transaction, whether buying a round in the bar or checking in, is carried out as if they're doing you a favour.... more

The hotel has been operating for over 200 years, as a climber base and serves this purpose well. It is perfectly placed, but its glory days are well behind it. The common areas are 100 years due for a renovation, but luckily the rooms have had a face lift and are comfortable, not fancy. But at 90 pounds per night... more
