Kenneth is a sea Captain, having had a full sea career, the last six years as captain of a small luxury cruise ship sailing mainly off the UK, Norway and Ireland . Anne, a native of Skye and Gaelic speaker, spent many years running a busy guest house and self catering business in north Skye. She spent the past four years recruiting and grading cottages for a large letting agency covering the Scottish Highlands and Islands . Both are concentrating on establishing a unique Country House Hotel with an ambience of peace and tranquility: "Our main aim is to please and provide top quality service. We have a small team of highly motivated and friendly staff to help us run the hotel as smoothly as possible." In 2005 we were thrilled to receive the Scottish Island Hotel of Year 2005 award. more » « less

Oh dear, I can hardly begin to say how disappointed we were. Booked Toraveig for one night as a treat on our honeymoon. Paid £240-odd quid for dinner, bed & breakfast. Our room, whilst nicely appointed, was small and as at the front of the hotel had a glamorous view of the car park! But the bed was comfy. The... more

We stayed there for two days in June this year. I had tried to book the hotel last June because they had won the award for best Scottish Island Hotel in 2006 but they were full. Booked well in time this year and was expecting a little gem. What we got instead was a tiny room, miniscule bathroom where you... more

Toravaig Hotel is a very good hotel and the staff are exceptionally pleasant and welcoming. I would not agree with a previous review it is "the ultimate scottish experience" . However it is well appointed, immaculately clean and tastefully decorated. Our room was small with little space between the bed and the dressing table, but the bathroom was of an adequate... more

Toravaig House Hotel has to be the ultimate experience in both comfort and luxury. The owners Ken and Anne have designed this hotel only to please the traveller and provide a friendly and homely atmosphere with wonderful food and excellent staff. The menus have been carefully chosen to reflect the true Scottish atmosphere. This hotel is unique in that Ken... more

The bedrooms are small but nicely decorated as is the rest of the hotel. There is a lack of public space with only one small guest lounge (no bar) which seats 8/10 people. This is a particular problem as the restauarant caters for non residents. If the lounge is busy, as it was when we stayed, there is nowhere to... more

We were after a really nice high quaity hotel for our one night on Skye, but I am afraid we did not find it at the Toravaig. The price was very high, but as the website promissed much we were quite prepared to pay the price. We wanted to book a family room for myself, my wife and our daughter,... more

I thought the room was very small for the price. No complimentary Sherry or other amenities in the room. When we got there the owners were having a deck built and the sound of the Buzz saw going from when we checked in at 4pm until 5:30 was extremely annoying. I also thought the menu for dinner was overdone, I... more

We made a trip to Skye for three nights last September. Initially we tried to find accommodation in Portree but thankfully didn't succeede! The Toravaig is relatively small but very welcoming hotel. The interior appeared to be of the highest quality and while the hotel does not have an open bar, the owners and their staff were more than happy... more

This is a beautiful B&B. Obviously, a great deal of care went into furnishings and other details. Dinner was great! Nice wine list. Breakfasts were typical straightforward fare, but tasty. Room was beautiful --- the best of our vacation. The location is lovely, but a bit isolated. Our second evening, we had dinner at the local pub on the Isle... more

I was beginning to be skeptical about accomodations in Scotland until we arrived at Toravaig House. Very, very nicely decorated, everything was clean and the room was great. Nicely furnished, the bathroom was stone tiles, the bed was the most comfortable I've encountered in all our trips. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant food was very good... more
