Yes, it has a great view from the common room and yes, it does have strong hot showers. Thosre are the positives. The guy running it when I was there, Murdo, would not put the heat on for us and it was cold wet weather. It is spartan, prison like and has a poorly furnished kitchen. Not much room in... more

Loved this hostel. Had unbelievably amazing views from the common room window! And the common room had nice big tables and couches, nice place to hang out at night. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The kitchen was great, even had an oven. It was also one of the cleanest places I stayed at on our trip. Spotless... more

My friends and I stayed at this hostel for 3 days 2 nights and we had a wonderful experience. The hostel is SO CLEAN it is really hard to believe! It is a smaller hostel but has a fully equipped kitchen that was a treat to cook in. There are board games available to play in the evenings and the... more

Fairly new hostel with a decent kitchen & bathroom...but as other reviewers have pointed out the whole outfit is lacking "charm" (noisy plumbing, spare interiors, no separate lounge / tv room). Worst of all, their security is shoddy (bed lockers are inconviniently placed and I was handed a damaged yet working keycard) - not surprise I got money stolen from... more

The Bayfield Packpackers has a second building that is run as a guest house rather than a hostel. This is ideal for couples, families and older travellers. The owner Murdock-- I believe his name was, is a character, but was very helpful in planning our trip about the island on the public buses. It is a great location and the... more

I've been to this hostel owned by a man who has got a really bad reputation in town and in the hospitality business; however I didn't know this before going, and I learned it myself during my stay. It started when I went hiking with a few guys also staying at the hostel. The weather was terrible so we decided... more

First impressions weren't so bad but it got worse as it went on - the hostel was very clean - the smell of bleach was overpowering but as least reassuring. The rooms are the closest thing to a jail cell you could imagine - painted brick walls - iron bunks - springy mattresses tiny duvets, a window with a view... more

paid £15 a night so i didn't expect much. the stay was pleasant, good kitchen facilities ( cooker, microwave, plates etc..) room was very basic and looked like a prison cell. the place was very clean. good shower with plenty of water pressure. Amazing views from the windows of the bay. the atmosphere was really nice, friendly manager, and people.... more

Dorms resembled concrete jail cells, though large they were freezing cold and the heating wasn't on, coupled with ultra thin duvets and bed springs poking me in the ribs also, it was difficult to sleep. Great kitchen facilities, thats the only good point, seems like they spent all their money on the kitchen and had none left for the rest... more

Me and my wife stayed at Bayfield Backpackers for 3 days, and we had a great time. The manager was very helpful right from the start. We had initially planned for one night only, but after the first night we decided to stay for the rest of our holidays. The Hostel is maintained very nicely. From clean bathrooms, well equiped... more
